everyone lives with budget, you can build very satisfying rigs without spending fortunes. Or you can spend a fortune and live happily ever after....

you begin with the signal from the source and always remember no piece of gear can ever improve it, the best you can hope for is that it leaves it alone as it passes it along or changes it in ways you find pleasing to your ear.

anyway you look at it, you got to have stuff to try stuff.

oh..and nobody likes their baby called ugly.

Nah, woman moved out before I started this spending spree. I'm going to have to satiate my desire to improve this with a few acoustic treatments I already have most of the materials for I guess.

And no, I'd not sell my stuff to keep some woman happy. Perhaps that's why she no longer lives here. ;)
..Thanks for posting!..Great read!..Here cold beer for ya!..Welcome too the Club!..Great place to hang out in..

Gee, that was money well spent on that GFA-5500. It lasted all of 6 months and tonight it blew up the left channel, magic smoke and everything. First I have the Onkyo 2009 model year remote control lack of responsiveness issue, now this crap.

Anyone know how expensive it is to repair a blown channel on an Adcom amp? :p

About $400-$500 for a Parasound HCA 1500A. That's how you fix it...

    Lol.

I guess you could try and take pics of it and post here and see if anyone here can notice what went up in smoke and a cost? otherwise you need to drop it off and have it gone through.

I was shocked when after my divorce I suddenly had money. I bought a receiver, and a new dvr called replaytv that would skip commercials. Both of those pieces were still around when I met my present wife and I had her over late watching what I told her was a "dark comedy" (the Ring).

Go for what you want, that is what women are attracted to anyway despite what they say. March your own tune and your own path and you will be happy.

As for the purpose of your thread, here's my answer: For this disease we all share there ain't no cure.

I dunno if I want to buy used again. I'm back to running it off my Onkyo 709 AVR and while it works, and the mids/highs seem ok, it's definitely lacking in the bass department and the bass that's there is much less clear and defined.

I popped the cover off and other than discovering spider webs I can't see anything obviously blown. Fuses are all fine. I turn it on and the yellow protection light comes on and stays on for the left channel.

I wonder if I'd be inviting a fire if I just used the right channel to drive my center channel and got another 2 channel amp.

I think that this statement sums up much of what is wrong with the world today:eek::tongue:

It could also be the artists he chooses to listen to. But I think you hit it on the head. The industry has had to resort to selling single songs now for the majority.

I find I can listen to older artist song writers throughout a whole CD. Janis Ian for example. Dan Fogleberg and Gordon Lightfoot.

Janis Ian "Between the lines" album is awsome in my book!
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

At this point my home theater system is worth more than the vehicles I own. Is there some kind of medication I can take that can stop this craving?
    ;)

Coming to this forum for help is kinda like asking folks in a bar for help with your alcoholism.

Seriously, if you take your time and shop around for good prices you won't really lose all that much when you sell your gear. This is especially true if you buy used, but can also be true with new items if you really shop around. I first learned this when I bought a Velo sub for $900 (NEW) on clearance and then sold it a year or two later for $800.

By the way, I have learned that trying to "save money" early on only leads to upgraditis later on. Of course most of us have budgets, but these days I push my budget and never look back.
