Just picked up the gigantic Pioneer SC-37 tonight from Magnolia for a deal too good to walk away from:biggrin:. I am making this move because my main focus is on my two channel gear and grabbing this behemoth pretty much sets me up well for the future on the home theater side of things for years to come and will give me the flexibilty I need to advance my two channel setup.

The only troubles I have is that I do not have the setup mic, remotes or a manual to fly this bad boy, but I downloaded it tonight from Pioneer.

Use a universal remote, like the Harmony One. If you check Audiogon someone had a remote only listed. That may help you. Congrats on the purchase bro.

remote, may have to check manual for exact model number. This one will work.

The model number for the SC-37 remote is CU-RF100-U.

Thanks for the help guys. I will look into them in the morning.

Initial impressions are that the video processing is simply outstanding. I am not able to get HiDef in my current apartment and teh upscaling that this does is superb. I will play around with it some more in the morning, but it is clear to me that I made a good choice for future-proofing my HT rig with this beast.

Now all I need is to get off my **** and get my amps done for the two chanel setup.

Thanks Larry... I am going to call Pioneer now actually. So far, the only drawback to Pioneer is that the "phono stage" sucks.

I expected that actually, but that is what my two-channel rig will be for.

    Hey John

Why would you say the phono stage sucks? Just curious to hear your thoughts. I don't use it in own rig, but if there is something to make it sound better do share just in case I do decide to go TT in the future.

I will always be a Sunfire man, but at this point it is not a bad move to re-evaluate my priorities, and HT to me is more of a want than a need. When I do go full bore setting up a proper HT again, a pair of Sunfire 7/400's are definately going to be a part of the equation. Getting my DIY amps up and singing is number one on my list at the moment.

This one DOES have the app for I-pod/I-phone for remote control. It is one of the reasons I grabbed it.

I guess mine was the last series that didn't have it then, I have the one before yours. I wonder what the new iPhone functionality coming out in the new models is then, maybe wireless playback?

    Has that too.

I called Pioneer and was told I am SOL on the accessories, so I will be looking about for all the stuff that should come with it.

Thanks Larry for the offer of the mic. I will send a pm if the offer still stands.

You must read the rules before joining the club. I do expect you to follow those rules. I'm a sucker for a personal review .

Congrads on the receiver , it's a nice step up over the SC--35 most people seem to buy. To me it's a watered down version of the real thing. They take to many little things away. I get upset.

I have been looking at the W4S SX-500 monoblocks and the ST-500 and ST-1000 amps. They have great reviews and a few people on the forum (Face, for one) has recommended them highly. Let us know if you get their amp and pre-amp Larry. I'd be interested in a review.

Wow, it seems like more and more people are buying the ICE amps these days. Had the chance to hear one of the new D-Sonic power amps recently, not sure what the speakers were though, definitely not Polks. Just wonder how well these ICE amps play with old Polk vintage SDA SRS ,LS etc..

Have had some time today to learn a bit about the phono side of the SC-37 today, and it is not as bad as I had thought, but by no means is it tubes. I am glad that this is a temporary thing. I have also experienced just how quick an amp runs out of gas when exposed to a 4 ohm load. I really need to sit down with the book before I get to wound up on the little things.

The sound however is very very good. I cannot wait to unleash the dogs on a movie sound on a movie soundtrack

AVR's make a lousy substitute for real hifi gear when playing music, so it should come as no surprise. I mean, come on let's get real.

I do know that the new ones will have Airport built in for wireless streaming. But I believe you can use the iControlAV app to control the receiver. Unfortunately I don't have mine networked since everything else is wired (just cant bring myself to use a wireless bridge again now that I've gotten rid of the rest of the wires)

So I guess we are still up in the air after my response too.

On another note, My hat's off to the guys at Magnolia. They were able to find the entire owner's kit for my reciever, except the damn remote. In it's place, they gave me the Harmony 1100 for cost! The may be affiliated with Best Buy, but they try and always be a step or two above in CS. Could not be more pleased with the experience.

Thanks to all you guys for the help and support as well.

I disagree I guess. I listened to the 25 and 27 side by side and could not hear a difference, I would assume the same would be true with the other series as well. I realize there is a difference, but if I blindfolded you I doubt you'd be able to hear a difference...

Obviously you work with these things all day, but to my ears (and many other apparently) I jsut don't hear a diference.
