What kind of mattress do you sleep on?

I need a new one. Current boxspring and mattress is 11 years old, and sinking in the middle. I get up in the morning feeling like I've been beat up.

I voted "Tempur-Pedic or other foam-type mattress" because my main shopping was for an adjustable bed and I don't think you could buy such with air mattress. However, I had the opportunity to sleep in an air mattress while at the hotel and this is the best sleep I ever had. When I visit my sister I sleep on a quality inflatable bed and believe it or not, I get better sleep than I do at home. A sleep number is also a great asset for a couple as you can adjust to your specific needs and so does your mate.

I am convinced many has heard about the negatives of memory foam; it get hot and in the summer in can be a drag; my portable air conditioning stopped on me over the weekend and I had to dump all my sheets in the laundry however, in the winter I save on heating bills as I keep my bedroom a little cooler than I would with a typical spring mattress. If I keep my bedroom warmer than 70 degree during sleep, I am in trouble (toss and sweat all night).

If it were at all possible to use an air mattress on the adjustable bed, I'd gladly invest in one and give the memory foam mattress guestroom duty!

I got my mattress and box spring for $50 total from the Salvation Army. Best thrift store buy I've had yet (unfortunately).

Really, it's not stained, and a quick steam cleaning got rid of most of the smell.
    Ludicrous gibs!

I would believe it should be quite the opposite. Like NSJ would say, "E-MOUETTE". Mouette is the name of a bird in French but since emo is sold online thus e-mouette. Therefore, a feather mattress sold online (e-mouette) has to be soft, right?

Sure, when you are young and healthy a "BANANA MATRESS" is more than sufficient!

I gotta say, I've enjoyed the sleep number beds every time I've slept on them, but I just cannot justify the outrageous cost for a glorified air mattress.

OK, granted few bonus points but is the mattress and box spring strong enough to hold the entire family? http://www.dustmiteprotection.com/dust-mite-control/how-do-you-get-rid-of-dust-mites-in-mattresses/  Just some to think about!

WOW! 2 years + XX Salvation Army years = Must be heavy as hell (more than just a colony, has to be an entire planet)!:biggrin:

    On a more serious note, lets see if this works and of any use to mdaudioguy;
Brand Ratings We found real differences when we asked 17,444 online subscribers who bought a bed in the past few years about their satisfaction with the brand and the store. Forty-one percent said they'd definitely buy the mattress brand they currently own if they had to do it over. Forty-three percent said they'd probably buy it again. An unhappy 16 percent said they'd probably or definitely pick something else.

    Brand Reader score Survey results

Tempur-Pedic___________would buy again is 60% and cost is $2,408

Original Mattress Factory__would buy again is 52% and cost is $0,891

Select Comfort__________ would buy again is 57% and cost is $2,125

Denver Mattress_________would buy again is 43% and cost is $0,861

Simmons_______________would buy again is 39% and cost is $1,325

Kingsdown_____________would buy again is 34% and cost is $1,936

Serta__________________would buy again is 31% and cost is $0,983

Sealy__________________would buy again is 32% and cost is $1,034

Stearns & Foster________would buy again is 33% and cost is $1,785

Spring Air______________would buy again is 24% and cost is $1,095

    Guide to the Ratings
Our survey was conducted by the Consumer Reports National Research Center. Mattress brand Ratings are based on 13,471 responses about mattresses purchased new between January 2005 and June 2009. Retailer Ratings are based on 5,296 shopping experiences at walk-in retailers between January 2007 and June 2009. Findings reflect the experiences of our online subscribers but not necessarily those of the general population. Reader score reflects overall satisfaction with a particular brand or retailer. Retailer Ratings were tied most closely to service, selection, and price but are not limited to the factors listed under survey results. A score of 100 would mean all respondents were completely satisfied; 80 would mean very satisfied; 60, fairly well satisfied. Differences of fewer than 4 points (four brands) and 5 points (four retailers) are not meaningful. Information about fees and returns was provided by the companies.
It somewhat surprises me that the spring air gets the lowest rating of all however, not so surprising the Tempur-pedic is a good first. IMHO, % of satisfaction versus price paid the O.M.F seems to be the best purchase.

In your Poll, it is unfortunate you did not think about asking about the level of satisfaction.

I have a Simmons at home and can't wait to get a new Mattress. It was great when new but it sucks now. It is about 7yrs old. I don't know the life expectancy of a mattress but that seems a bit low to me.

I would love a Tempur-Pedic but the darn things are so dang expensive.

Never thought of OMF though. Might add that to the list.

We have a sleep number and couldn't be happier. My taste changes depending on how I am feeling and I can adjust the bed to my preferences :D We got it %50 off. It was basically their top mattress and they were running it on clearance to make room for the new model. Got it at the right time!!!!

I have slept on numerous sleep number beds in hotels and they are OK. Not great but OK.

A buddy of mine has the Temper-pedic in his guest room. It was really comfortable, but I couldn't deal with how hot I slept on that bed.

At home, I have a fairly soft traditional pillow top (Sealy Lantern Plush Euro Pillow top) and I sleep well on it. Personally, the only other bed I would consider getting is a wave-less water bed. Easy to adjust the firmness, and you can make it cooler to sleep on in the summer and warmer in the winter.

I have always wondered about how hot you would get in a Tempur-Pedic. We have one of those 3" mattress pads made from Tempur material and it does get stupid hot.
