Were you playing a cd?......Did you get a high-gain warning on the Onkyo from your Dac or cd player?

Too much gain can damage your speakers.peter.

    i was using a ps3

I use a Pioneer Elite receiver and it has a high-gain warning light.I'm not familiar with the Onkyo and whethet it even has a high-gain indicator.

I do know that the 70's have a sensitive tweeter that can be easily blown at high volume.Did you try to hook up a cd player to see if the problem might be the ps3?.

If the problem re-occurs,I suggest that you send an email to Polk and explain the problem. They are very helpful.Peter
