Need some advice

I just scored a pair of RTi12s. Never owned a bi-ampable speaker before. I have two AVRs. One is a newer Denon 75wpc. The other is an older Sony 110wpc.

Was wondering if I could hook up the Denon to the upper connectors on the 12s and the Sony on the lower.

My CD player has both optical dig and RCA out. The dig would go to the Denon and the RCA to the Sony.

I am thinking this would kick **** for 2 ch stereo. The only downfall I can see is that I would only get the 2 two 5 1/4 speakers and the tweet from the 12s for HT.

Might be ok though because I have a kick **** center, surrounds and two subs.

Will this config work? I dont want to screw these speakers up in any way.

I think it would be pretty hard on your CD player using both outputs. Also, the gain, and sound signature of the two AVR's may make it difficult to get a balance between the HF and LF drivers.
You could give it a shot though, it won't damage the speakers any; if anything the CD player is the one piece that will be pulling double duty.
Just my opinion of course... and we all know what they say about opinions...

I'm not feeling this setup. If you want to mess around with bi amping , I suggest getting a multichannel amp or 2 2 channel amps. Allow only one preamp.
I also think it would be wise to have a better stronger amp then what Denon puts inside their receivers. Plenty of used amps to go play with , check the flea market someone always has some nice amps ready for shipping.

Also consider your end result. If better sound quality is the goal , there are many ways to achieve this over your current system. Post it and I can give you some tips.

Worst idea I've heard this week.

Use one receiver and get an amp for the 12's, sell the other receiver to fund the amp if you have to. I don't believe your cdp will output from both analog and digital connections at the same time. It usually will pick one or the other.

If neither of your avr's have preouts to add an amp, sell both and get one that does and keep the volume at a respectable level untill you can find a decent used amp.

I appreciate both of you being candid in your replies. I know it sounds wacky, which is why I posted the question.

I kinda shot my wad on this new 5.1 speaker system. Will be awhile before I can upgrade amp and such.

Just thought this might be a better way to feed these monsters until I can upgrade.

Not a good idea for a lot of reasons. Plus, depending on your cdp many times you can only use one out at a time.............meaning it may not output a digital signal out of two outputs simultaneously.

Too many problems here... Even adjusting the volume would potentially be difficult.
FORGET that your speakers are "bi-ampable." It seems most newbs (myself included when I first started) think that they're not getting the most out of their speakers if they're not utilizing this "feature." Connect them with a single "good" speaker wire to each speaker, replace the brass jumpers with a short length of the same speaker wire, and use whichever AVR makes them sound best to your ears, and just be done with it for now.

I figured that, but no, it's not a good way to feed the 12's. Thats why I suggested selling something to fund something else. Used receivers with preouts can be had fairly cheap. Same with amps. Your better off going used since money is tight. Look at your local craigslist, here in our own FM, or Audiogon.com for used gear or to sell something.
