I am going to be upfront right here.

The reason why I am coming is to network with other members and hopefully get my dream job, an Engineering career at Directed Electronics. That is why I want to come to Polkfest.

In all seriousness Serendipity, How do you expect to wow people when you seem afraid of your own shadow? When I hire people I am looking for a go getter, a take no prisoners kind of person. Someone not afraid to get in there and get dirty. I am sorry but you just don't strike me as such a person.

I understand Engineers live by different rules, but I don't see you trying anything that hasn't already been done. I don't mean taking chances, I mean using your imagination to come up with the next big idea. I see you more as a, I think what they did there will work here type of person. Maybe tweaking something until it fits your need but never stepping into your own shoes. In my world that just don't cut it.

    I apologize if I am wrong but I don't think I am.

    Hi all,

Looking for anyone in the NYC Metro Area and surrounding regions (NY/NJ/Long Island/Hudson Valley/CT/PA) who would like to split a ride down to Polkfest. I'll be upfront and state that the reason I am doing this is to split on the cost of travel (like gasoline) and hotel (could order 2 adjacent rooms w/group discount) to make this affordable.

The vehicle will be a 2009 Chevrolet Corvette and is very comfortable.

Trunk space is limited to around 20 cubic feet, as I will have safety equipment such as a first aid kit and a Mechanic's tool set with flashlight, etc. But that does not mean don't bring anything, there is still plenty of room for gear + luggage.

Please submit any responses to PM only. Thanks!

It seems to me that driving a sports car for what will end up being... 20 hrs seems... insane.

    Just read the above.

Not offended at all. I'll admit, I'm not the smartest person in the room, but IMO it's all in the attitude. Not giving up in spite of failure. There are those that stuck it through and there are those that are quitters in life. But I'm not going to lie and say I'm brilliant or become a phony... remember Edison wouldn't have invented the light bulb if he quit, right?

    Anyways, back on topic...

Quoted for truth! I'm not saying Edison was a failure or anything, but I don't think he's quite the genius that he is purported to be. Plus, he seemed to be quite the pompous jerk (i.e. the electrocuted elephant). He was not a great businessman either. His insistence on using DC to send power over long distances hurt his company - AC won out on that one, and for good reason. His insistence on using a proprietary system for recording/playback for his phonograph records also hurt his company - lateral cut won out over his hill and dale system. I could go on, but this is already getting too long.

As for the speeding, I generally go the speed limit, but I also drive a CR-V. The main reason I do the speed limit is for better gas mileage. However, if I had a Corvette, it would be a different story.

Let's get this thread back on track...

Are there any members here interested in splitting the cost of travel down to Polkfest by car? This will save you half the cost of getting there, and I'm sure booking two hotel rooms together would be cheaper than just one. Saves both money AND gas! This is a great opportunity, just let me know via PM!

me and my friend did 20 hour drive Fort Lee NJ (NYC) to Sunny Florida in his RED Ford Mustang 5.0, the one with seat that does 120 degree recline....We stopped for only gas and food and i enjoyed every minute of it.....not as much fun as cross country trip from LA to NY but still it's fun....

wish I could make it to the PF in 2012, because I liked NJ PF so much....
plus I also have an EE and work as an engineer....

As someone who has driven across this fine country four times (Boston->Arizona, Arizona->Boston, Boston->Portland, OR, and Boston->Austin, TX) that sounds like the worst thing ever. The fun of a road trip isn't the sitting in the car, it's the stops and side trips and detours. Just driving for 20 hours to get somewhere? Just take an effing plane if your'e that boring.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
