Looking for input here, are the Rolling Stones Remastered CD's worth the investment ? I was thinking of upgrading my collection. Thanks. Cheers.

If you love the Stones, in a word yes. The 2 channel SACD's are very good, my personal faves are "Between the Buttons" and "Flowers". Post blues/rock, Brian Jones still hanging in (although, looking at his pics on these albums, perhaps one foot out the door for the band & life, too many "Mothers Little Helpers"??)

I've got the SHM-SACD of "Sticky Fingers" on the way.....I'll post up my review here later.

I thought he was asking about the remastered CDs?
I have "Get Your Ya-Yas Out" in both original CD and remastered. The remastered is definitely cleaner. At first I preferred the original, probably because I was so used to it, but the remastered is becoming more of a favorite. I also have other remastered Stones, but do not have the original CD to compare.
It is hard to give a better answer since I only listen to R&R now late Friday night, or early Saturday morning, after getting into a party mood, and that does not happen as often now as in the past. And when I do it is only for a few CDs before I get tired of it, and go back to classical, not classic rock.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Do you mean the 2009 or 2002 RM CDs?
I think the 2009 Exile was heavy handedly redone with more amplitude and limiting. -
I thought he was asking about the remastered CDs?
Would the 2 Channel SACD's, released around 2005 thru 2007 time frame not be considered "remasters". And if he is looking to get the latest "remasters", would this not be the place to start? They were introduced at very low prices(for SACD's) and numbered. Definitely an improvement over the remasters done in the late 20th century to generate cash. Just asking? -
The hybrid CD/SACD discs released by Decca happened here in 2002.
Did they do some more in 2005-2007? -
I have the four Classics on remastered CD Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile On Main Street, those are the four classics are they not, well maybe in my opinion, they all sound better than my worn out LP's man Let It Bleed, a must have.Home Theater

I had the remastered Stiky Fingers and was very disapointed.
If you are looking for great sounding CD's, the SACD's are a must have.
They sound incredible, Let It Bleed and Beggars Banquet like you have never heard them before.

Correction, they were released by ABKCO.Political Correctness'.........defined

Tony, if you have an SACD player get the Japanese SHM-SACD 2 channel SACD only issues. They are well worth every penny. Second best would be the hybird SACD/CD's from 2002. If you just have a CDP, a number of the remastered CD's are from the 2002 DSD masters, so they are pretty good. Stay away from the recently remastered Exile On Main St., absolutely horrible.Political Correctness'.........defined

I recently acquired the DSD remaster of Let it Bleed for about 7 clams off of Amazon. I have been listening to it for the past two days and thought it sounded pretty good. This is in comparison to like versions of the same songs from the Hot Rocks CD's that I have from the 80's. I was just wondering if the rest of the re-mastered catalog was of the same caliber. Thanks for your comments regarding Exile on Main Street, that's a bummer considering all the buzz it generated. I bought the DVD, Stones in Exile and was kind of unimpressed by it. There were some useful tidbits in there but that was about it. Cheers. -

No, my error. Culled from my feeble memory. Was 2002. Time flies, doesn't it.
Great remasters, using "album look" in a CD format -
Where can you get the 2002 remasters. I heard some places like Amazon sell the non hybrid ones even though its advertised as that.
-
Another choice is to download the HDTracks stuff on 24bit 96k.
The 176 or 192k might be just upsamples but bandwidth limited. -
On the other hand, Rolling Stones style of rock and roll is best heard on vinyl.
Lots of detail, clarity and warmth missing on the CDs.
I haven't invested in SACD, maybe too late for that format. -

Should be able to pick up the SACD's from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Let-Bleed-Rolling-Stones/dp/B00006AW2G/ref=sr_1_4?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1312348282&sr=1-4
These should be the SACD's , also check with Tower on line. -

No. I bought a lot of those, including the one in the link, and they are CDs.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Someone should sue them! -
What SACD player do you use F1nut?
I'm already heavily invested in vinyl, but HDTracks is good as it is in FLAC. -
F1 has the MF KW SACD player...which he listens to with his mahageny pipe, sipping his cheap merlot.
BDTI plan for the future. - F1Nut -
If they aren't the 2002 RM as advertised, you should return them.
Someone should sue them!
Why? They are clearly marked and sold as CDs remasterd in 2002. No dishonesty there. If somebody thinks CD means SACD then that is a consumer problem.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

The 2002 were hybrids, CD and SACD on different layers.
If they aren't shipping those 2002RM in the cardboard containers then there is a problem.
If they are indeed shipping the correct ones than reports are false. -
BTW, the 2002 RM were not labelled as SACD as that might alarm the general public.
-
+1 for HDTracks Stones releases. These are the ABKCO masters and sound mint.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.
-
Which one(s) do you own nspindel?
I am thinking Le it Bleed is the best one. -
I've got a bunch - 12x5, Beggar's Banquet, Between the Buttons (UK), Big Hits High Tide Yada Yada Yada, Let It Bleed, The Rolling Stones, The Rolling Stones No. 2, and Through The Past Darkly.
Let It Bleed is fantastic, yes. But my go-to is Beggar's Banquet, that album is epic.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -

The first nine or ten Stones albums are classics if there is such a thing. Then came the Glitter Twins and it all ended.

I thought it was while sipping his Vodka Gimlet with his hat tilted at a jaunty angle.
Anyway, +1 for Let it Bleed. I haven't put the thing away since I started the thread. I've also decided to add one Stones album per week until I get all of them. One of those things I said I was always going to do but never did (bucket list type stuff). This week I ordered Flowers. Looking forward to that one. Cheers.
