Anybody wanna split the cost with me?
If I got this I think I could afford to get one of those $100,000 turntables, spend at least $1 Million more on amps, preamps, cables, a room and speakers.
What he's asking for to see this collection would be worth it just to see. Very cool.

I have enough trouble deciding what to listen to with the albums I own. I would be lost in that place. That is truly an awesome archive/collection.
-
That collection ought to be purchased by the Smithsonian, or the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, or the Library of Congress (once we raise the debt ceiling!).
-
The library of Congress was set to purchase Mawhinney's collection for several million dollars, as recently as the fall of 2002.[3] That agreement fell through because of budget cuts and difficulty in justifying the purchase using taxpayer dollars.[3]
From wikipedia.
I don't know why the Smithsonian doesn't buy it, maybe the same reason the Library couldn't. I guess the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame could buy it but it doesn't just have rock, it's everything:DHome theater:

Too bad someone like Warren Buffet, Bill Gates or Paul Allen won't step-up here before it's gone forever :frown:. If only I had the coin.“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” ~ Mark Twain

That's an absolutely 'amazing' collection. Hard to believe with all those 50K to 100K turntable high end record jockeys spinning their million dollar systems, that no one has stepped up to buy this??
I suppose one could approach Apple and have it 'digitize' the entire lot for itunes in their attempt to control all forms of media! lol
I would say that this guy might just be suffering from a bit of OCD if this weren't such an incredible feat. Imagine how many days, months, years of this guy's life were spent searching, trading, researching his sales and finds...it boggles the mind. The normal mind, that is|

So the fact that I own 10 different versions of the same album isn't really that odd. -
He mentions when they're digitized that the audio is compressed or cut off, no highs no lows, I believe that in a sense, but not fully. If Organ music is cut down top to bottom then they make the Cd's sound pretty real, with all the sub bass with very high notes from the romantic era.
I think if had a Million dollars already set into a stereo system with the Turntable, mono blocks, speakers and other equiptment I'd already own all of this. you could spend your whole life listening to all of it which would rock!Home theater:
