the dreaded hdmi handshake

Hello , I hope you guys do not think that I run to my computer room when I find some tid bits of info,I actually do. Again after all my problems were solved w/ help w/ you guys , common sense and just relaxing one more bothersome entity
enters the picture. We have talked about this a few other times and it seems that t.v.s do not like or are not fast enough to handle the HDMI handshake.I must say i still get on ocassion some pixillation and a delay when changing stations which drives me nuts. One cable installer said the HDMI box was hot ,even though it was in an open air rack. That said I did move the box with the the freshesed clean air I could find. Any difference, maybe it's early to tell or my box just might have seen better days. Please any comments on this issue would be greatly appreciated.....lw

I still run RGB from the cable box. I couldn't stand the inconsistancy from using HDMI. I don't anything is aired in 1080p anyway. BluRay of course is a different story.

Same here and I use my receiver to up-convert the cable box signal to 1080P. Using optical for sound as well. -
Digital data needs to be processed, and someone in the chain isn't processing it fast enough, it's pretty simple. Whatever it is in your TV that's doing the processing is probably fast enough to handle it in normal situations, but when you change channels (essentially resetting the stream) it has to basically re-set and then catch up, so you get some pixellation or a delay.
Very over-simplified non-technical view of things, but "your cable box is hot" is a complete red herring that I woudln't worry about. Instead, be more patient and stop channel surfing so muchIf you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
I have to use dig coax for sound. Not bad, but unfortunately my AVR cant upgrade video signals
-
You can use component video and be just fine. I guess it all depends on your screen size as well. HDMI handshake is definitely the culprit, patience my friend. It shouldn't take that long though, I'm guessing couple seconds at best. If it bothers you that much check out the DVDO Edge, and think video processor. At the price point, it may help if not send it back.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

As a foote note I tried going direct w/ just HDMI w/ the sound that was pretty damn good as album to cd.But because I like watching tv sports and have tunes at the same time I went the toslink route, or roaut, or root.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

Usually the Cable box scaler processor isn't that good. When you compare HDMI to Component video , HDMI usually looks sharper. Audio is exactly the same as only Dolby Digital is the highest format.
I run HDMI and have no issues with Verizon. Yes going back and forth from standard to HD channels suck and has to re sync but I usually stay within the HD channels.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
jbooker82,
I have a Tosiba au50037 which in my opinion I can not find any fault w/ it. Except for the damn handshahe or kissoff. It is very annoying and some times after changing stations it takes literally minutes to comeback.W/O the cords and w/ a straight h/u the connection is instantaneous.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

I didnt know if it could have been from being a LCD or LED tv. I notice by brothers will pixilate every once in a while. Like when the motion gets real fast or when your flipping through channels.AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808

Hello deronbi, I've got to tell you that I liked your idea of the new cable you talked about. Problem was that when I went to Cable vision they had absolutly no idea what I was talking about, yes they have tri-color cords but not what you discribed. Next I went next door to Radio Shack and again no such cable. Also in the same mal is Wal-Mart and no luck there. On the way home I made one more stop to Office Depot and again nothing.Aftre hooking up a trial run I clearly lost some 1080i and was so disolutioned that I went back to Hdmi.Maybe I will invest in a more expensive brand but your idea had no merit to about 20 people. It was to crazy hot to go running around......LW2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

Leftwinger you couldn't find that cable because it is called a Composite Video Connection not RGB. Deron should have explained it better. He called it RGB cause that is the colors of the three wires they use.
-
Holy Crap! I am very sorry that you went through that. Yes Joe is right they are composite cables. I always use RGB as a short way to describe them because composite and component sound an awfully similar. Know others that do as well.
I can't believe no one at any of those stores did not know them by that name though. There are only so many different types of video outputs from a cable box. Again I am sorry and will use proper designations from now on. -
RGB= red, green, blue. This is a component video cable gents. Composite video is yellow with the stereo pair red/white for audio.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Ha Ha, you are right Sheradp! See, that is why is use RGB.
-
Dammit I said Composite and meant component. At this point he will never get the right cables.
-
I somehow feel responsible for all this
-
No biggie, Your idea is sound.
