Before I powered on or installed any tubes on my new amp, this is what I found in the slots. I'm wondering if this is normal or not?

I thought the other thread was about this amp? That's a blown socket and you may as well break out the soldering iron because it needs replaced. Not normal....c'mon man.

You know you also need to check bias for tube amps right? That could have been your original problem coupled with a tube issue.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Dude, I know NOTHING about tube amps. Nothing.

This entire situation sucks. The seller is a horrible guy who has been a pain through this entire process.

I just sent him an email. What do you think it would cost to repair all four power tube sockets?

IMO this statement is your biggest problem... Learn, study, ask questions before you just jump in..

Again I'm going to say this but your screen name does not fit you...

Yeah, with all due respect, this is a bad sign. It's a mess under there but not impossible to replace the sockets. I'd start looking for a shop around you.

I have to agree with Doro, find a shop to do the work.

As you admit to not knowing anything about them, that should be your next step.

I was going to talk down to you but you don't know much about tubes so I will be cordial. Tubes are awesome sounding but very finicky to work with. This isn't plug and play like modern equipment it is 1920's tech with modern features.

Honestly don't do the work yourself. You will cause way more harm than good.

PS, sellers sometimes suck. He is sending you the correct tubes and it was probably an honest mistake, the issue is you are not knowledgeable and trusted what he sent without doing research. I am not bashing, just stating facts. Take your time, read up on tubes and your equipment, ask questions before you jump in.

Maybe it would have been more prudent to start off with something like a tube buffer to get to know tubes, biasing, the do's and dont's. Wouldn't be as costly if you make a mistake, which we all have done at some point on our learning curve. Take it to a shop, get an estimate and decide if it's worth it to keep or sell. If you decide to keep it, many here will help you understand what to do.

Most decent sockets are ceramic, so plastic sockets would be bad news in my book. Scaring would tell me there is at least one issues that needs to be address in the amp, and should not be used until serviced as stated above.

Bummer about what could be a bum amp if it was shipped to you that way. Tubes can be a pain, but the best amp I've ever owned was tube and I still can't shake that aural memory...

I'm a musician, that's where the name came from... Let's play some music together and see if you still hold that opinion

Thanks for the help guys. The seller just emailed me and let me quote:

Is it possible that everything is okay? Why would he say this?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say, you're going to get negative flack for the name Mark S., Denver CO, AV123 used in the same place. I own an Onix CD player and will soon get some X-Amp mono blocs, all were designed by Mark S. and some fellow designers he had in the company back then. All had some issues that are being rectified by my tech buddies, in fact there are 3 diff X-Amps being reworked and hot-rodded by 3 diff techs across the country as we speak. They are all bouncing ideas off each other to see what works/sounds best.

Why? Because it's a great design, that needs some tweeking to be even greater, YMMV of course.

I don't know this Keith person at Motorcity, but he probably bought a bunch of amps from Mark S. and is selling them at a markup for profit. I really don't know, I do know Mark S. is selling gear off at a highly discounted price lately and some of my friends are snapping it up. The Onix CD players for example are really nice units that need some reworking of the power supplies. After that they're awesome machines. Good Luck on your tube amp !!

And I'm sorry for quoting it, which means it's there, my post can be deleted as well, since you read it and understood where I was coming from, I've stood up for the designs of Onix, AV123, Audio Alchemy and Perpetual Tech till the cows come home. I don't know Mark S. well enough to defend his personal actions, but he's pissed off alot of people in the past. It's damn nice gear, worth getting put right !

Please research tube amps, and get comfortable with the do's and don'ts, before you play with the new tubes being sent. That amp should not be used, until it's fixed properly, as mentioned already.

I can see if my guys want to give it a going over.

Sweet, thanks Stuwee. I just got off the phone with the seller and he said the amp is completely fine to run and the burnt looking sockets aren't going to effect anything. I'm going to take him at his word and fire it up when the new tubes get in.

No prob, If you go against all our advice and use it with the new tubes, Do Not Leave The House with it Powered On!!! This is not a random comment, it's deadly serious stuff, in fact, Don't leave the room with it powered on!

That amp needs some nice high quality ceramic sockets. And a a good going over to see why that happened in the first place...the wrong tube issue hasn't been established yet as the culprit.

I bought a sub from his company that's served me well, but others were not so lucky... He duped a lot of his loyal customers over the years, but the whole charity fraud thing was rather sickening. I'd never own another of his products. I wish I had a reason to replace my sub. I should have bought an Epik or HSU.

I'm positive that you can operate it as is but it's clearly jammed up. It should be fixed, plain and simple and it appears that you're doing that.

The seller should probably take a break from retail for a few weeks and get his head together. No one likes to have problems after the sale but it happens and you quickly assess the situation and solve the problem. It's happened to me but always been able to get it handled.

I'm not siding with anyone. It's just that I've read enough of your posts to notice a pattern. The only reason I was compelled to post this time, was that you dragged a third party into it publicly without giving him adequate time to handle it offline. You recognized it yourself, but life doesn't always have an UNDO button... Not everything needs to occur online.
Right now, I neither like, nor dislike you, because I really don't know you, so I'm relatively indifferent about you. Have a great day!

Im thinking you threw the wrong tube in the wrong socket and it spiked the bias and roasted the tube and possibly the socket/amp also. That is scorched ceramic btw, its not plastic.

Get it checked and have all the tubes, mainly the power tubes tested before being used again. Sorry Im not buying the "it came this way" pitch, not after the thread you posted before this about the mismatched tubes, then you leaving the house with it powered up.

And to drag a company into it, which chances are they have done nothing wrong, is pretty crappy of you.

This isnt a personal attack, this is a grow up and learn from your mistake's post.
