Yeah, two rate hikes in one year during a time of economic downturn and with bills in the Senate trying to allow ISPs to charge extra for the additional bandwidth used by streaming companies? Methinks it's time to cancel Netflix out of principle.

I'll consider cancelling if/when that happens.

    OMG OMG OMG OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Netflix with unlimited streaming of thousands of movies and as many DVDs as I can watch one at a time is going to cost me a whopping $16 a month ?????!!!!!!!!

I'm calling right now to cancel !!!!!!!!!

From a more reasonable perspective, $16 a month for what I'm getting is an absurdly low price. I'll deal with the limited data cap by ISPs if and when that happens, but I'm not going to cancel my membership because 'that may happen'

LOVE Netflix. Sounds reasonable to me. Companies are in business to make money, wtf.

    Bing.

And they're offering cheaper options than ever before for you "economic downturn" whiners, so what exactly would you like.

Exactly, we're talking about an extra $6 a month. If $6 a month has ANY bearing on my decision then perhaps I should be doing something 'better' with my time than watching Netflix, like looking for a second job...

I just changed my subscription from 3 DVDs out with unlimited streaming to only 3 DVDs out and no streaming. For me, the new pricing is better since I no longer have to pay for streaming since I do not use it.

Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

I'd consider keeping it if they had all their titles available for streaming. When we were streaming Heroes, you had to get the DVD for 2 random episodes in one season. Also have to add an extra $2 for blu-ray

My subscription of 2 DVDs plus streaming will go up a whopping $5 a month. Oh no, whatever shall I do, where in the world am I going to get that extra $5 a month????

I guess I'll have to start robbing banks...

They'll never have all their titles available for streaming, and through no fault of their own are there are plenty of studios who just don't allow that.

I'll be honest I love Netflix, but Satellite and Cable companies offer streaming the same as Netflix and as Netflix begins to creep their prices up close to what the Satellite/Cable companies charge, I'll start purchasing from my Satellite provider. Why pay for 2 services that offer essentially the same thing. Netflix needs to be careful before they price themselves out of existence.

I understand growth and costs associated with that growth, but they need to be careful with their pricing structure because there is stiff competition out there.

That'd work great. Not only would I make more money from a third job, I wouldn't have time to sit down and watch a movie with the wife, so I'd save money since I'd cancel netflix anyway.

    Thanks for looking out.

It's not just $5 this time, they just raised their prices less than a year ago. Not to mention their stock has almost tripled in the last year. I'm SURE they're hurting.

    Screw 'em.

I find I hardly ever use the streaming feature (since the catalog was relatively small and recently got smaller). I think I'll switch to the DVD only plan and save some money.

I'm trying to remember if they said anything about Blu-Rays vs. DVD only. Is the $7.99 DVD only plan the same price if you choose Blu-Rays as well? Currently I believe they charge an extra buck or two for this.

$11.99 for 2 DVD's seems lower than it used to be. Wasn't it around $15 for 2?

I wonder how Blockbuster is doing in the web/mail DVD bisiness ? I just saw a Blockbuster machine like the Redbox ones the other day outside of a Safeway grocery store. Seems like they're still "in the game".

Yes it was, that's the plan I'm on now.

People, in their haste to find something to **** about, are missing a valid point here. For alot of people who think that their streaming service sucks and only want the DVDs, this will actually save them money.

Not sure if I'll drop them or not. Since we got DirecTV, I can't tell you the last time we've actually streamed anything. There's quite a few shows on right now that the wife and I enjoy and we just record them on the DVR.

    We might just do RedBox.

So it's ok for a company to up and raise there subscription price, on average, 63% to deliver the exact same content they did the previous 30 days?

Sorry, that doesn't sit well with me at all!! It either means 1) they are taking advantage 2) the CEO has very, very poor industry vision and because of a shortfall or miscalculation we the subscribers have to make up for it.

I vote for #1, their growth and all but elimination of Blockbuster means the only competition they have is Redbox and the Cable and Satellite companies which allow you pay on demand.

Eff 'em. I'm not giving them the Vaseline.

Yes, but it included streaming. Now streaming is extra. They just split their services, which for most people is probably a good thing, and for everyone else is probably worth a few extra bucks.

I'd bet money that this has more to do with the greedy movie studios than anything else.

The studios are asking alot more for streaming their content since that avenue has become a viable option for so many more people. More people streaming = less people buying movies = less money in studios pockets = studios charge Netflix more for streaming = that cost gets passed on to the customer.

Why's that so hard for everyone to understand?

Except I use both and I have no issue with streaming quality, but they don't have the newest most popular movies or TV series. For me it's a lose-lose, because I use both the DVD plan and streaming plan and now I am either forced to choose one or the other, or pay a 63% increase for the exact same content I received 30 days prior to the restructuring.

I don;t understand why they don't have a bundle discount? Well actually I do, because I would bet a majority of their customers use both right now and this will maximize revenue even if say, 25% of the current customers drop.

This is what you get when you nurture along a new business since day 1 and help them become successful, they 'eff you without the courtesy of vaseline.

Mine is 1 DVD and unlimited streaming. 9.99 plus tax. They don't describe that in the pricing. It was 8.99 plus tax before the 1.00 increase in January.
