I love the 707's, but the 703's really suprised me, right out of the box. I can't imagine how good they sound once they break in. They filled that VERY large room with a LOT of good sound.

    Cheers,
    Russ

I am right there with you Russ! As great as the 707's sound, the amount of sound produced from the 703 bookshelves was QUITE impressive! Speakers done the right way! Amazing smooth response, with the ability to fill a larger than average room!

Polks are finally ready for pre-orders on Crutchfield . (Mods, if I'm breaking any link rules, let me know and I'll delete the link).

Anyway - I'm surprised they don't have a true bipolar surround speaker offered - only semi-bipolar - no tweets on both ends. Anyone knows if any crossover changes were done in the production version from the prepro ones? I wonder if they addressed Skip concern about midrange suck out he experienced in critical listening.

    Oh well, until I'll hear 707s again, I'm rocking my LSi's :D

I didn't hear any midrange suck out, the forums' new audiophile buzzword it appears, in either model demo'd at CAF or at home. There were multiple pre-production models floated around for private demo's so they may vary wildly from one another. The final version was in production run status prior to the Lone Star Audiofest so any changes, tweaks, or red lines were already completed.

Love Star Audiofest - you wish :)
Midrange suck out - is not a new term, unless you consider 8 years new. I used it to describe Sonus Faber Grand Piano Home performance, and many people concurred. Anyhoo, I dug a little bit and it was indeed Jim who noted concerns about 707s midrange, from his review:
The imaging is still great, as the same LSiM HF setup is used across the board, but the 707s don't have a ported midbass section (really would've loved that), whereas the 703s did. I think that took away from the impact a little. "But they have dual 6x9s Jim...", I can picture some of you thinking that same thing as you finished reading that last statement, but the 6x9s are tuned for the "sub-bass", so they don't lend much help toward the the midbass which charmed me so adamantly on the 703s. The 6x9s are tuned independently from each other, with one using a much longer port that's slightly smaller in diameter, the other using a shorter but larger port. They do well on the lowest bass, but the higher bass was just not nearly as punchy and present as I would?ve liked, and the bass overall was quieter than I'd anticipated

Who said it was a new term in audio? I'm not sure what you mean in regards to LSAF and just used it as a time reference for what was and wasn't done yet. I didn't hear any midrange suck out comments from the two or three ppl who came to CAF but that's not to say it didn't have critiques in regards to performance and freq response.

I read Jim's comments when he posted them previously.

I was just pointing out that Love Star Fest would be completely different from Lone Star Fest. Some one is in the mood :) And as far as Jim comments, I just go by what he said from his in home review.

No mood, just typing. I didn't notice the typo and that would certainly change the type of show it was to say the least. It's just interesting that 4 threads today had someone use the term midrange suck-out and it's just a pet peeve for me as an observation.

    What that's about?

Anyway about the buzzword - Must be a Friday thing. Everyone want to get sucked out from work and go home :) For my defense, this thread was the only one I clicked on today, so I was not aware that "midrange suck-out" was the "in" word
Any chance that we get another pair of 707s in Dallas for home demo before we commit to a highly discounted group buy?

    When did you ask?

Newsman - I doubt it. They're very heavy, not cheap to ship and at least for now, scarce....although there are about 40 pairs in the warehouse when I dropped off some stuff today.
