So far happy with the PSW 505. However, will I see a MAJOR difference if I move to Hsu VTF 3 MK 3 or SVS PB 12 NSD ?

All are 12".

Application is almost 100% HT

The PSW505 is a good sub for 250 or less new but it's not in the same league as the SVS or the HSU.

However...don't be too quick to upgrade unless you have the cash on hand because you'll go bankrupt pretty quickly.

I'd also suggest you look at the Epik Legend in a similar price range!

    Proceed wisely!

Just sold my PSW505 and I am ordering a custom sub from Elemental DEsigns...Around here not so much, but on other forums and by reading reviews, it seems like the 2 subs you mentioned should walk all over the Polk. I liked mine and for the $ it was a steal as my first sub, but after hearing a better quality sub, I started to hear it's limitations. Again, $220 shipped for the 505 gave me no regrets, but once I heard a
    $600+ sub I knew I wanted a bit more.

For me it came down to this, I don't need to blow my foundation out, but I never want a sub that won't play certain frequencies. If I buy a sub with my own money, I never want it to make a strange noise or something during certain scenes...like WoTW or The Hulk's sonic gun scene.

I tried that when I got tired of my 505, I ended up with dual 505's that I got tired of pretty quickly after that. I went to an SVS and realized what i'd been missing.

    Hi B Run,

You have an NR-3008 and you still needed external amplification to run the RTi8's? Is that not a bit of overkill ? Did you notice a difference in SQ ?

Specifically what was your take on 505 to SVS ? Why did you choose a cylindrical sub instead of the PB-12/PB-13 etc

Honestly I got my 3008 in about a week ago and haven't hooked my Adcom back up yet. I'm debating selling it or holding onto it in case I ever go with Lsi's. The 3008 is more than enough for the Rti8's.

I have a pretty large theater room and was running dual 505's. They did a good job filling the room, but they tended to be a little slow and muddy on the bottom end. I did an even trade for an SVS, I went cylindrical because it was on craigslist for cheap as hell:biggrin:. The SVS showed me what LOW bass sounded like, and could actually pressurize my room better than both 505's. It's very clean and fast, and sounds good with music and well as HT.

what was your AVR before the 3008 ? What difference do you see with the 3008 ?

I've been through way too many AVR's this year. I had a Denon 1909, Yamaha RXV1800 and then Pioneer VSX1120 before I got my Adcom amp. I ran the Pioneer with the Adcom for a while and really liked the sound. I'm always wanting to upgrade and try something new, so I bought a Marantz 6005 to use as a pre/pro, but it lasted about 20 minutes and quit outputting video. I returned it for the Harman Kardon 3600 which I tried so hard to like but absolutely hated. The ezset/eq was crap, it sounded terrible and had a few quirks I couldn't live with. I finally bought the Onkyo 3008 last week. I notice after running the Audyssey multeq xt32 it was the best my system has ever sounded. It was perfectly calibrated, my sub finally sounded the way I wanted, and I noticed a lot more detail and clarity. It is slightly brighter than some other ones i'd tried, but still has plenty of punch and bottom end on it. I haven't even bothered to hook my amp back up, I figured if I really didn't feel like the Onkyo was enough i'd keep it but i'll prob sell it here pretty soon.
