These scumbags opened the us open coverage with national anthem, except they cut out "Under god", and "Indivisible", how unlike them.

It was a montage featuring patriotic scenes interspersed within the Pledge of Allegiance (not the National Anthem), and yes, the editor who did it unequivocally a scumbag for editing those words out.

He's a scumbag because he does not believe religion should be tied into the US Open?

FYI, "Under God" was not included when it was originally written.

Oh, yeah, I'm sure they were reverting back to that early version .

So what do you tell people who don't use an interconnect cable between their SDA's?

If you choose to use the Pledge of Allegiance, use it. Don't intentionally edit out 3 words.

I've never missed an episode of Whitest Kids, but didn't particularily care for that skit.

But N.B.C., who is in the midst of trying to shine its image with folks outside newyorkjersey, chicago,LA, D.C. or boston, or sanfran, after its disastrous msnbc, and nbc news commie-lib reportage history has proven so transparent, and most important, financially unsuccessful and to try and grit their teeth, pretend to do something seemingly pro-american, that the fly-over folks would appreciate, ended with a chopped up,CENSORED,CENSORED I SAY, version of a middle american patriotic tradition, is an absolutely perfect representation of how the other side is just using us too.

Dont believe either side, eventually, something worth believing in will rise to the top in this country, Herman Cain?, oh yeah, hes not polished enough as a speaker,I mean really, as far as i know, he has yet to even come up with a little jfk clinton non threatening yet authoritative hand gesture, like the thumb on top of the almost closed fist as you make a point, and hes yet to get even a little d.c. slime on him by being in elected office.

Meh. As an Atheist, I don't care if it has those words in it or not. "God" and the idea of god, or things like the Pledge having God in it... or on our money, don't offend me. There are worse things people can do than offer me the religious blessing of their choice. People that are offended by such unoffensive things have serious life issues that need addressed.

But that is irrelevant, although I am sure they edited it because they didn't want to offend the minority of people that take offense to such things. Like someone said, if you are going to use it... use it in its entirety. It is also irrelevant that the original didn't have those words, because it does now.

Also irrelevant, but since I am soap boxing, might as well say it..., I choose not to say the Pledge for reasons other than those words. There is no Constitutional requirement for me as a citizen to Pledge allegiance to a flag, so I don't.

Again, there is no Constitutional requirement for me to do so, so I will not. I was born here, I vote here, I pay taxes here, I served in the military here. That is all the pledge of allegiance required from me.

I guess I misunderstood "I pledge allegiance to the flag...," but the point still remains the same.

Yes, the flag is a symbolic representation of your country. Sad that you think a Constitutional requirement is needed.

This whole thread is a sad commentary on the way things are. Gone are the days when being a proud American was something we all were. Now those of us that still are have become the punchline for all that is wrong in this country, or worse, condemned for our "misguided" belief that this is the greatest nation God has ever brought forth on the face of the Earth. For me, American Exceptionalism is what I will teach my kids, and respect for the flag, our founders and our way of life, will be required learning.

If there is a God, he must think us to be a nation of fools.

Be serious. Who Is condemning you for anything? The irony is that you don't even realize how un American your statements are. It sounds like you are the one condemning those who don't think exactly like you.

Do you even know what makes America exceptional? It is the great melting pot where people of all faiths and beliefs are welcome. It is where people can express their patriotism as they see fit, and it may not include pledging allegiance to a flag. The problem is people like you that don't want different points of view in that pot.

On the contrary Justin. I fully accept your position and those that believe as you do.

Let me put it to you this way. For me, giving my allegiance to my Country is no different than pledging my love to my wife. I honor that pledge with never-ending loyalty, and devotion to the same. I will never betray my wife, as I would never betray my Flag, or the Nation it represents. I take my pledge seriously.

That you choose not to accept that for yourself is entirely your choice. Does that make you un-American? No, not at all. It means simply that you have other priorities or beliefs and that's ok too. Just remember that your ability to sleep free tonight is being secured by the blood of those even more patriotic than I am.

Now you have gone entirely to far....

I saw this after I made my post in response. Where in the hell do I make any such statement? Time for you to look in the mirror on that one.

There is a majority here in the U.S.A. and as long as the majority still stands and there has not been a vote to change the Anthem and or the Pledge, no one has the right to butcher or alter them. They would have been better off not airing them at all.

Now like a mentioned as a majority we still stand, the minority needs to have a little respect and to opt to leave the room, turn down the volumn, and just shut up for the brief 5 minutes and then everyone can go about their own.

When I was in school there was always the 1 or 2 children for one reason or another that did not participate in the Pledge or the Anthem and so be it, but they quietly sat while "THE MAJORITY" finished. Those were not banned or ridiculed and participated in the rest of our daily events...to each is own.

But, like I said until a vote has been casted or the majority is over turned be respectful.

I don't have an issue with people not adding God in the allegiance but I do believe it should be indivisible and said.

Justin, you seem like a smart guy, and you served in our military and I respect that, but to say you think we need a constitutional amendment so you have to say the pledge is not the point. The Pledge and our Flag represent the country we live in and hopefully stand up for. Not the Gov. or God. It is about being a Patriot and behind what this country represents. It should not be viewed as an agenda for the right or left or Jesus freaks it is about us as a people.

If you don't see that than I feel sorry for you. I truly do.

NBC is not part of the gubmint, they do not need a vote or a majority or anything else to do whatever they want. If you don't like it, speak with your dollars and don't support them. Otherwise, stop whining like a bunch of babies.

If what one person, or even WORSE, one large soulless corporation, decides to say on the air threatens or hurts, in any way, your belief in your God or your country, that's FAR more insulting to either / both than what htey said to begin with.

I think he was referring to the fact that you misused the word "casted".

It's actually not even a word. You cast a vote. You cast your bait. You cast off to sea. The word doesn't change form between tense.

Didn't NBC issue an apology DURING the U.S. Open broadcast? It stated that they did not intend to offend and just felt it was a good point to break to the imagery due to the tempo of the pledge? They also broke several other times and "Under God" were not the only words dropped from the pledge.

It was just wrong, apology or not. As buisness men, they did realize the mistake and tried to correct it, even if it goes against their grain. NBC,and others have been taking a hit because of their tilted ideology resulting in some damage to their brand. Last thing they needed was to add fuel to the fire. Thus the apology, but does the average joe really think it was sincere ? I dunno, maybe yes, maybe no.
No need to keep harping on it though, it was done, apology made, move on.

In my original post, watch the videos again and you will know exactly where I stand.

I have to disagree with you, based on your words..., not mine, but it isn't the point of this topic.

I agree NBC is wrong in what they did. That is the point of the topic.
