Worried about my dog Buddy...

When I got my dog Buddy he had a really bad infection on his right front leg... which healed and went away with alot of TLC!
Well - today - and probably started happening a few days ago - he has a lump in that same spot...
There is a spot that potentially could be a bite - but it is very small...
His demeanor has not changed and is still playful --
Thoughts?
I was going to give it a few days and if it did not decrease in size take him to the vet

If I press semi hard it seems to bother him.. if I just "tap it" he seems indifferent- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

When in doubt, we always take our dogs to the vet. That 50 bucks for the visit is worth the peace of mind.2 Channel in my home attic/bar/man cave

If you got the money I would take him in. Dogs are the best pets. I wish I had taken my dog before his lump that mysteriously showed up and got all weird. To this day, I have not found a good dog to replace him.Fronts: Monitor 20s

What caused the initial infection? Was it a cut or puncture wound? Might be debris or a foreign object that the skin healed over and is now causing the infection and swelling underneath the skin. If it was a bite you can try childrens benedryl or an antihistamine. I would start with half a pill and go from there. I have also had good luck with first aid anti-biotic sprays, soak the area and a piece of gauze that you can wrap around the site. Use a non-constricting bandage, the best way to apply is to pull out enough slack to wrap around the area once and after every wrap, pull the slack out away from the limb, using your hand to avoid pulling on the actual bandage around the limb and then run the slack around the limb again. Or keep your pinkie finger under the bandage and remove it after you wrap it, but that might be too loose and your dog will just entertain himself with unwrapping it. Tumors and growths are firm to the touch, if it is just swollen or puss it should have some give. Either way, I would take him to the vet first thing.

Buddy needs that! while we all hurt, alot of dogs I've had barely make a whimper when you touch a sore spot ... X-rays may be needed, or blood work... , costs money but worth it

I love how music can brighten up a bad day. -
I agree with stuwee- dogs are notorious for being able to tolerate, and hide, extreme amounts of pain. Dogs will yelp when they're surprised/initially hurt, but chronic or constant pain in a dog is typically almost invisible.
Doesn't look too bad from the pictures, and the location is relatively not concerning (leg >>> abdomen/neck/head). Also, if demeanor is the same, and he's still playful, drinking, and eating, probably even less concerning. That said, it's probably worth the 50 bucks for peace of mind if it's not gone by the appointment time...
Good luck, and hope all turns out well. I was close to taking my dog to the vet two days ago for a big lump that appeared on her nose, but it went down in a few hours so probably was just a bite. Bad part about dogs is they never learn! She probably got stung trying to pick up a scent in the long grass off the trail I take her on....which has literally happened 15 times in the two years I've had her! -
Why are you asking this group of audio asshats? TAKE THE DOG IN.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.
-
Seriously? I have a lump on my throat do you guys think it is something?
Dude take your dog to a vet. Asking an internet forum about animal care is ridiculous. -
Sounds like his body is forming a cyst over the infection. Have a vet check it out.
Good luck. -
go to the vet. my wife is an LVT and that's the first thing she said. animals don't show the same pain response as humans so that they don't appear weaker or easier prey. (yes even domestic animals)
-
sounds like his immune system didn't completely fend off infection...went thru the same deal w my cat...time for a vet visit. GL!

Good. I was about to say "take him to the damn vet already!". I learned from my vet that most animals tolerate pain a lot better than we do. So something that would have one of us crying for mommy doesn't phase a dog, cat, etc. Hope he gets better soon.Turntable: Empire 208

We have 4 dogs when it comes to check ups and heart worm pills and surprise vet visits it can get pretty pricey, we take them in regardless peace of mind is better than hoping it gets better I always restrain from buying new tunes for a while to make up for the vet bills. You made the right decision and brought him in, hope all is well, now just refrain from buying new tunes and audio gear to recoup those vet bills.Home Theater

The vet just gave me some medicine to reduce the swelling. It seems to have gone down a little bit - but he says if it is not down soon we need to get a bit more serious...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
