Hope all turns out well for you folks.

In April we all loaded up to run from the PK Complex fire, it was 5/6 miles north and in an arc running counter clockwise around to the southwest at about 15 miles distant. Talk about making us sweat. Thankfully we got a change in wind direction and humidity then the next day it started raining.

Now all is dryed out again and another fire was going yesterday about 15 miles northeast of here.

If the Southwestern part of the US doesn't get rain and a lot of it soon, it's going to be a hell of a fire fighting summer.

    Best of luck to all.

Yep, and the lightning-induced fire season hasn't even started yet....

This fire is seriously getting out of hand. Pre-evacuation warnings are beginning for the Hwy 92 end of Buffalo Soldier Trail (Hwy 90). I live off of Buffalo Soldier Trail, on Coronado--about 3 miles up from the intersection of 92 and 90 (BST). Creepy for sure. We have a couple of fire team guys that will be staying with us. They're suppose to come by at 4pm for a shower and a bit of down time before reporting back at 6pm.

I will make some videos this afternoon and post on youtube. Stay tuned....

If you go on youtube and search "Monument fire" you'll see some pretty incredible video. The Main peak you'll see burning, is almost dead North of our front door--as Wes (I-SIG) can tell you. Luckily, though it's breezy right now (2:01 local time) it's not as windy as they had forecasted....yet.

    More info: http://inciweb.org/incident/2324/

This was just sent to all Ft. Huachuca Feds/Military. I was wrong about the pre-evac orders--so far it's extending to Miller Canyon; not 92/90--but this is significantly closer than Hereford.

I'm waiting to see their reaction when they notice I have cold beer, and a POOL.

It's the least we can do, these guys are coming from Northern California (Corning); so we'll see to it they get fed, have a bed if needed, and can clean up. We've got 2 spare bedrooms--so it's no big deal.

I don't think they'll be able to stay at the house though--I think the fire teams have to camp at a large headquarters area determined by the chief. 14 days on, 2 days off as I understand it.

    Damn.

I was down there today dropping off a generator to power some of our stuff that has lost power, and I saw several black plumes of smoke in the smokey haze.

We gave the guys down in SV one yesterday, and it was powering some of our equipment....That is until the houses the equipment was feeding burned.

I've seen enough structure fires to know what those black plumes were. :frown:
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

...and to add to the fun, my AC condensor fan died yesterday evening. Thank God for ceiling fans!

Have you checked it yet to see what may be wrong? There are some A/C guys here that might be able to get you back up and running again. If you are interested, please start another thread, though. Every time I see this thread bumped, I cringe at the thought of what might have happened.

The condensor is humming/vibrating...but the fan won't start. I removed the fan assembly to look for a reset button, but it doesn't have one. The fan motor was VERY hot---so I assume it burned out. I tried it again this morning, thinking maybe letting it cool down might help---nada. It's a Bryant AC, about 6yrs old.

Sounds like the fan motor. Feel the return line (the larger one) to see if it's cold.

Good luck man. Mighty kind of you to take care of the boys, BTW...

Steve thanks to you and your family for helping out. On the A/C situation, sounds like the compressor is running and it's cooling somewhat inside the house right? On condensing unit fan motor, the fan blade is locked up or can spin freely? I find it unusual for the fan motor to burn out in only 6 years? Could see if the bearings were shot(motor being hot) ,causing the thermal overload to trip on the motor. Might have to replace motor,I don't know... How does the fan motor capacitor look, any swelling of the outer casing or burnt connections? Capacitors are funny about going out in hot weather.

Smell like campfire pretty harsh? Where is the rain? Talk about a year to use swamp cooling since it's so dry. I never did turn it on this year and opted to spend alot more on electricity to use AC. Good luck to you and Bev and friends.

Did they ever pin it to an illegal. News has only pointed toward a "camper's" fire.

The fan spins freely. The motor external case looks normal. Where's the capacitor located?

The wind has been blowing easterly (away from us, towards Palominas), so we haven't smelled the fire yet. They've only said that was "man caused." Well, duh---in the absence of lightning, what else could it be.

The cap is usually located off to one corner, unless you have some sort of industrial unit. 6 to 7 screws and you can access it. It should be located behind an access panel, usually near the incoming VAC.

Fan spins freely is a good sign, tells me the bearings are ok and aren't causing the fan motor to trip a thermal overload. Should be able to follow the wires back from fan motor into a weather protected side compartment of the condensing unit where all of the electrical components(contacts, relays, capacitors etc are. (NOTE: Before you go there, flip A/C BREAKERS OFF,just to be safe). PS.Just saw treitz3 already mentioned above:)

Bev couldn't wait for me (she's home today), so she had Berg's Heating & Cooling come out and look at the AC, it was the capacitor. It's been replaced and it's up and running.

Thanks again guys, really appreciate your help.
