This is happening (started) in the Canyon at the end of the Huachuca Mountains, near the Coronado National Monument entrance. It's nearest to Hereford and Palominas. Reports about 40 minutes ago state that 50 structures have burned so far...One guy I work with occassionally lost his home so far. I tried calling our Pool store this morning, everyone except the receptionist was home packing up horses/cattle to get them out of there.

Is there any containment yet? Last I heard, several days ago there was zero. Stay safe bro.

I think it's getting worse since it jumped Hwy 92 yesterday---that's where the bulk of homes are, unfortunately. 15 years ago, there was nothing but buffle grass east of 92. We are having an extremely dry (dew point of 3 degrees, humidity of about 8%!) and WINDY June, turning this quickly into a nightmare.

Thanks for the concern, we'll be fine--lots of fire-breaks between there and our home.

Damn! Any ideas on how it started? Several days ago I heard 400k acres consumed with no end in sight.

I think the latest talk is likely illegals not putting out a campfire completely---it's quite cool at night in the desert. But it's just specualtion at this point. It's not at all uncommon to see bands of illegals, 20-30 strong coming thu that range while camping up there, as Mexico lies just about 6 miles south of the Huachucas.

Looks like plume from the tire warehouse that was burning 5 miles from my front door last Thursday.

Propane tanks exploding, from what i heard. No city gas out that far, so everyone is on propane. Sierra Vista is small, so 5 miles away is in the sticks.

The Canyon (strangely enough) is Ash Canyon.

400k acres? I think you're thinking of the Wallow fire in the white mountains area--it just set a record as the largest Arizona fire.

    Here's the latest:

We're in town, if that fire makes it to us---there would be alot more to worry about than our home.

Many folks have been sent home from work due to evacuations.

Prayers have been sent your way man. My word, 5 miles is close and I'd bet the flames are over a hundred feet tall at the front. The fact that it's creating its own weather system isn't helping at all either. Stay safe bro'.

Appreciate it man, I'll pass the prayers on to friends living out that way (Palominas/Hereford) and the fire teams.

    This really sucks.

While the Wallow fire is bad, it doesn't really affect me too much. This fire on the other is burning up places I've worked at, and I'm familiar with.

I'm figuring I'll be down there doing fire damage restoration when it's done.

Sierra Vista is a day trip for us. But if by chance (due to hours worked) we do get the hotel treatment, I'll take you up on that.

Trico may be sending folks to help Sulfur Springs Valley out. If they need design help I'm volunteering!

Be safe Steve! On the plus side, since there's a huge amount of ranchers there, there's been an unbelievable outpouring of volunteers to round up and house all the animals safely

If you look at the moonson down in Mexico, it's headed north, just a couple of weeks and the rains begin!!

As you know, this year we've got a strange weather pattern. It should not be anywhere near this dry in June---hopefully Monsoon will come with a vengence.

Stay safe Steve! Those fires move with amazing speed and the sparks can allow them to jump pretty wide firebreaks.

This morning things looked much calmer, but then again they looked calm yesterday morning too. It's up to 10,000 acres now, and has moved into Miller canyon (Carr canyon is next, and where the campgrounds we use are located). This means the fire is moving towards Ft. Huachuca (North, towards our place). I think they are allowing much of the upper mountain fire to burn, to clear some of the over grown brush. They are expecting, and preparing for portions of the fort to catch, as it's loaded with buffle grass--though the south end is almost all desert, not many structures except for the aerostat station and the M16/M60 firing ranges.

Later today, winds are suppose to be an excess of 40mph....great.

If I had Shack-daddy's photo prowess, I could have caught some intense images last night from my backyard. The Miller canyon peak was glowing orange with fire.
