I had a water heater blow while I was away that didn't get fixed right away so now I've got mold and water damage everywhere and it just keeps getting worse everyday. Just discovered that It got into my storage room, my original box's for my 1C's, a S.A.E. pre-amp (might be able to save this one), a pair of noname speakers and a whole bunch of other stuff that's all wet and moldy and probably getting tossed. So now I have to move ASAP! and this is no easy thing seeing how I'm in a wheelchair. Man this is turning into a real headache thank god I don't own a gun because you'd probably hear about it on CNN.
Sorry just had to vent.

Damn! Sorry to hear of your bad luck.

ouch-- hope you are able to recoover your stuff.JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

Mold is a PITA to get rid of. You better start tearing stuff down now and getting a dehumidifier running 24/7. Get a hold of the problem quick and get a water heater sink or overflow pipe connected if you have to replace it. This will eliminate future issues.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

That sucks! I hope you have good insurance coverage.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, Gimpod, but it may not be quite as bad as what it appears to be.
The stuff that's wet and moldy can be reclaimed/restored. Even electronics.
Stuff that you're sure may fall into the "WTF !" category can, at the hands of a good disaster recovery company, be returned to a "WOW !" condition.
I've had personal experience with "ServPro" (Twice :frown:) and have had VERY satisfactory results.
Mold can be remediated.
No shortcuts there, to be sure.
Carpet/pad gets ripped up and removed.
Drywall gets ripped out to the studs, bleach/anti-goober stuff gets sprayed, and the problem goes away permanently.
IF DONE CORRECTLY. No shortcuts.
Don't know if you're covered by insurance; that'd make life a lot easier, of course.
If you're having to move due to the mold and you're renting, your landlord may have to provide lodging until the mold is remediated.
The Red Cross will/may pick up the tab for 3-5 days; enough time to get stuff figured out. Plus they have a lot of resources/referrals at hand to point you in the right direction.
In the mean time, vent away ! Better out than holding it in. And keep pluggin' and chuggin'; it gets better.Sal Palooza -

Good advice from the big blue. Also, when water heaters go, it's usually from rust at the bottom. No overflow valve will compensate for a water heater that cracks on the bottom. The best advice is if your gone for extended periods,to just shut it down, unless it's the winter of coarse, then just turn it down.
Mold can be removed and finding a contractor to do it right may take some legwork. Hopefully your renting, because if you own the joint, when it comes time to sell, you'd have to disclose any mold conditions and the company who took care of it. Needless to say, not appealing to a buyer.
Had one go on me while I was gone a few days, luckily I have a floor drain and all the water stayed within that room on the floor. Don't know what it is about water heaters, they always tend to take a dump when your gone. Never when your home watching the tube. Hopefully insurance will cover most of this for you, good luck with it all and we all hope things work for the best for ya.HT SYSTEM-

Unfortunately it's an apartment and I don't think they would like it if I got some people in here to rip out the carpeting and drywall. Not a bad idea also being in a chair and needing a special kind of bed puts any temporary lodging options at zero. So I'm stuck here until I can get another place by next weekend I hope or see if I can get in the VA for a bit (I just might have to do that).

Damp Rid to the max. It will help get rid of the smell, and pull the humidity out of the air....
Hopefully it all works out. Hate to see it happen to a fellow Polkie :frown:"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
Gimpod, happened to notice that your location is "The Pacific Northwest".
If I'm not mistaken, that's kind of close to ...... well ..... Canada.
Assume you'll have an insurance adjuster out Monday, so you might want to have him check for evidence of foul play.
You might find that you're a victim of certain "foreigners" who are well known for mischief making. Who scoff at the concepts of international borders. Who think nothing of spreading their particular brands of foofooraw and kerfuffle to innocents everywhere, mocking all norms of accepted civilized behavior !!
.... although it could just be a case of broken water heater after all.
But be careful in the meantime ! Those hooligans are very wiley !Sal Palooza -
Yep it must have been those damn "foreigners":biggrin:LOL:biggrin::biggrin:“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” ~ Mark Twain

friends and family will help you get through this situation , a couple weeks ago I broke my leg sometimes I stay in bed all day full of pain pills, if it wasent for my wife it would be VERY difficult to be healing . -
Sorry to hear Tony. I hope you can save most of your equipment. If you absolutely need some help, I may be able to drive up to help you move. It would have to be on a tuesday or wednsday though as those are my days off. Unless another Polkie closer to you can help out (as well)? Let me know if you need help and I'll see what I can do time wise.

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Sorry about your troubles. I almost lost a brand new drum kit because of a water heater that went. I swore that it would never happen again, so I shopped around and went with a tankless water heater. My only regret was not doing it sooner. The internals are all copper, so rotting through is not possible.
Something to keep in mind for the future. -
Sorry to hear about the water issues gimpod. Hope all goes well and your stuff can be salvaged. Put a call out to us locals if you do need anything.

Not a bad idea but I don't know for sure where or when I'll be moving, I think it's only going to be 2 apartments over in the same building, wont find out till tomorrow. At this point I think I'm just going to hire a local mover my brother has used a couple times to come in and pack and move me, I think this would be the quickest and easiest way to do it.
Thanks guys for all your support, It really does help and is greatly appreciated.“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” ~ Mark Twain -

Your renters should cover the cost of movers and your gears.....after you pay your deductible, but since mine is like 500 that's prob less than the cost of replacing that gear, movers, ect....
Provided you have renters.
