better put the over excited highs is drowning out the lows........you have bass you just can't hear it.......

I enjoy the Oink sound. I think their receivers sound very nice with the RT speakers as long as you're not pushing the receiver too hard. Make sure your bass management is set up correctly. What speakers are you running?

I know what you mean- but I wouldn't call it a "problem". I'm a big Onkyo fan, and I wouldn't say they had a "lack" of low freqs, but rather an abundance of high ones. And to each his own, I prefer the emphasis on treble, I think it sounds much better in that respect than say an HK while the HK has more low end. Granted, I'm not trying to say Onkyo is the BEST, but for it's price and availability, it's the best for some (me).

I had some issues with my Onk 600. I had to turn my sub up entirely to get any detectable bass out of it. I fixed it though. I went to the level calibration menu, and turned the Subwoofer all the way up to +12. There is more than enough now. I would try that.

Ive owned Onkyo and Integra exclusively.. No problems.. My old pro logic Onkyo had tons of bass.. I wouldnt say the highs or harshness would even drown out the bass or low freqs.. if anything its in the settings of the receiver and your speakers..

Onkyo may not be flagship but their is enough of them around to say they satisfy alot of people..

and to those of you who don't see or think much of Integra.. look at this new separetes setup they just came out with...

Wait - you don't have a sub? Well no wonder it has no bass ;)

One thing though you do want to check- Onkyo's come out of the box with the bass management feeding the bass through the sub out. Make sure you select sub to "none" in your menu to get the most out of the 800's.;)

My daughter has a Onk TX-SR700 in her room driving 1979 vintage "New" Advent Loudpeakers. There is no shortage of deep bass in that room. There is even less shortage in my HT room, where I have a Onk Integra M-5090 power amp driving the four 12" woofs in my '79 vintage AR-9's. I have a Onk Integra M-504 in a shop being serviced (I just got it), and it will drive the top half of those AR-9's. Do I like these Onk amps? What do you think? I've heard a few amps over the past 35 years, and these and the Carver's are EASILY my favorites.

Vic, whatever problem you're having with bass, it's highly unlikely that it's inherent in the Onkyo(or any other modern receiver for that matter), since it has frequency response essentially flat from 20-20Khz. As another reply mentioned, check all your settings, especially that the sub is set to none if you're not using one, so that the 800s receive the low bass. Another possible factor, of course, is the speakers themselves and their positioning in the room.
