channel changing, slight pop in speakers

i've noticed when i'm changing channels that i sometimes here a very faint pop in the rear speakers i have in my HT setup. since it isn't a super loud crack or pop, i'm not sure if its detrimental to the speakers, but based on what i've tried researching online, it could be an interruption in the signal. it also happens sometimes in between the changing of commercials. it wouldn't be so annoying if the speaker wasn't right next to my ear.

here is my set-up--
pioneer elite vsx 33
polk monitor series 70s (fronts), cs2 for the center, monitor 30's for surrounds/rear
fios/motorola cable box with hdmi connection

i've found some possible solutions, in addition to the normal 'check your cable connections,' but was wondering if i should be concerned, if its just speakers breaking in, or if there's an actual fix for it.

I'm not as knowledgeable as some others here, but Can you try some other type of cable connections other than HDMI. This would confirm if it is a hand shake issue with HDMI and copy right protection. Very common problem with HDMI and cable boxes. Some AVRs and pre-pro have more issues than others but I haven't seen much with Pioneers being a big offender. It is not a speaker burn in problem. Probably HDMI or AVR switching in and out of Dolby and stereo/mono signals not locking on quick enough.

if that were the case, that's not going to damage the speakers or receiver, right?

i probably have some cables lying around that i could try.

As long as you aren't introducing distortion it shouldn't be a problem. Post back what the results are with alternate cable choice.

so i tried a component cable from the cable box to the receiver, the soft pop/static is gone between channel flips.

tried a brand new HDMI cable, soft pop/static between channel flip comes back.

if its any consolation, when i turn up the volume, the pop doesn't seem to get any louder than when its at lower decibels.

another observation...i haven't fine tuned the set up on my receiver, but when i switch to 'stereo,' pop/static goes away. if its in 'surround' mode, it comes back.

could it be just the source of the audio through the cable box?
