Just watched this with my son and I'm not sure what just happened. It seemed the story floated around and really not telling you why the Fire bender wanted to rule. I did get they wanted to prove they where the most powerful.
Ok the last Air bender is a Avatar for all Elements , ok he only learned Air from the start then learned water. So another movie I'm thinking IF it did well enough to warrant such an act.
I get it it's a kid movie , it could have been a lot better. Acting was weak.

If you watched the M. Night Shamwow live-action movie, then IMHO you missed the really good parts of Avatar:The Last Airbender. I'd never heard of it, and my 8 and 10 year old boys seem usually to have lousy taste in cartoons (old Scooby Doo is okay, but they'd rather watch Dragonball Z than the Road Runner), but one day they started watching the original animated series and I ended up seeing most parts of most episodes. It's a *really* well written story for a kid-targeted cartoon, and I don't think the live-action movie did it justice.

If you've any interest in animation, see if you can catch an episode of the original series...and there's a follow-on cartoon from the same authors that's supposed to be premiering within the next year.

Basement non-dedicated 7.1 HT: SDA-CRS+ R/L, 255c-LS Center, LSiFX surrounds, RC80i in-ceiling rear surround, plus Wharfedale 12" sub (some day I'll get around to building 15" F-20 sub).

    Cartoon was very good.

The movie was a mess - I'm going to avoid the sequels, if there are any (hoping there won't).

I second CNWDI's point of view. i happened to watch the movie before seeing more than two episodes of the cartoon. But it was apparent from just those two episodes that the movie was off mark; but I still liked the movie. After watching the entire Avatar series, I understood why my daughter hated the movie. It paled in comparison. The dynamic of character, the depth of story line, and the overall impression of the show, was lost to M. Night Shyamalan. The movie sucked

He spent 5 years writing 'The Sixth Sense' and that was a gem. Other than that and perhaps 'Signs', it's all been downhill for him. I'm sure he's made tons of money though. Pity to waste that kind of talent.
