SDA's - what do you power yours with?

I'm fairly new to the forum - just picked up some SDA-2's the other day and love them so far.

I'm wondering what you guys power yours with.

I'm running mine with a vintage Sansui AU-999 and like the nice warm sound it produces - I can't crank it up much past 3-4 before it's too loud!

I also have a Kenwood KA-8100 I could pair them with. I've read that SDA's play well with a high current amp - not sure how you know if your amp qualifies as high current... So what are you using?

I have an Adcom GFA-545 amp that I power mine with normally, but right now I actually have a Pioneer receiver on loan from my boss that's been driving them. It's an older (80's?) receiver, dual-mono design, and is quite stout.
    Ludicrous gibs!

    Carver TFM-45 rated at 375 wpc @ 8ohms.

The shop I just got it back from said they bench tested it and it was putting out 395 watts per channel.

No comment on the sound yet, I've only had it for a day.

Bought a second one on eBay in April to give bi-amping a try; but, it got very well UPSed during shipping and is still in the shop.

SDA 1C's with a Carver 705X (around 150 - 160 watts into the 5 Ohms). Very comfortable even cranked up. I've also used a NAD T747 receiver for awhile in stereo mode (rated at 60 into 8 Ohms but bench tested at 125) and it also sounded fine.

    SDA 2 powered by a Sony TA-3200F amp (110 wpc 8 ohms, 130 wpc 4 ohms) & controlled by a Sony TA-2000F preamp.

Couple of questions. Has anyone used any V-FET amps to power their SDAs? If so how do they sound? Also can I use a Kenwood Model 600 (or for that matter any of the Kenwood dual mono designs) to power SDAs? In a thread I saw somewhere there was some confusion as to whether their dual mono construction meant they were not common ground amps. Anyone here enlighten me on this subject.

My SDA 1C's have been powered by an Denon POA-1500 followed by a Carver TFM-55 and now a modified Carver M-1.0T that is called a MKII and they sound awesome. My next experiment will be a Harmon Kardon II citation amp with a Mcintosh MX110 pre.

I believe either of your amps will work just fine. They are both well respected vintage amplifiers. Neither of them are considered "high current" but does it sound good to you? If so, don't worry about finding new equipment and just enjoy the music!

If you haven't yet, you may want to look at getting one (or both) of them restored.
