Opinions on refurb receivers

I just got an ad from pcmall.com. They are selling the Denon 3803 for $699. It is manufacturer refurbished though. Has anyone ever bought a refurb model? I have purchased a few things from pcmall and never had a problem. I have the 2803 now that I paid $750 from a dealer. I can still return it and would like the extra watts per channel along with the video upconversion but it was out of my price range new. I would appreciate any opinions. Thanks!

Covered this before... somewhere 'round here.

Refurb's had a problem that snuck by the manf's QA once, they are not going to let it happen again. They're possibly even a safer bet performance-wise than new stock and generally come with a nice discount.

    Yeah, what he said.

More product, less money, same warrantee.

I bought an Onkyo 575x Refurbished from their website. Everything went smooth, the unit was in perfect condition, and it is going on three years without so much as a hiccup in performance. So I think it's a safe bet.

Thanks for the opinions but I called today and they are sold out! I just got the flyer today in the mail and the rep said they had sold the last unit 2 days ago! So much for upgrading!
Thanks anyways, I have to keep a closer watch on it next time.

J & R Music World in New York City (the hub of the universe) has FACTORY refurbed Onkyo TX-SR500's for $150+ shipping. 65wpc @ 8, 80wpc @ 6. Plenty of power for the powered woofer module based system (they're NOT subwoofers).
