I wonder which is the left one and which is the right one?

Not sure, they are a mirrored pair though.

Well the split crossovers look a lot like the ones in my SDA2's. One for the stereo side one fore the dimensional side. Without knowing the values of everything on these boards I can't tell if it is different but from looks alone they look the same. Even the 2 stacked resistors with a Poly and a silver mica on the one board.

Plus, they can't be too early since they have a poly switch, IIRC the earliest of SDA's had fuses, but I'm not 100% positive on that. My friend has a pair of SDA1's in the 80's (the original model with the "border" around the baffle) and it seems like I remember them having tweeter fuses.

Good catch H9. My SDA's have fuses, well had fuses at one point.

I'm thinking one Friday, after hours, toking on a jay, downing a few shots of whiskey, Stu, Sandy and Matt said "hey let's try something":tongue:

Just an FYI, the owner of these is trying to sell them now. He is wanting $350 for the pair. I think he'd be very flexible on price. He is located in Baltimore.

He's just listed them on eBay for $399. I'm in the local area and I'd be interested for about $225, but not even close to $399... (If this was how SDAs were "supposed" to be arranged then there would be more like this...and my wife still isn't in love with my existing Polks...)
    Current polk speakers:
    Family room 5.1: TC265i R/L, VM10 Center, RC65i surrounds (couldn't match the TCs)
Basement non-dedicated 7.1 HT: SDA-CRS+ R/L, 255c-LS Center, LSiFX surrounds, RC80i in-ceiling rear surround, plus Wharfedale 12" sub (some day I'll get around to building 15" F-20 sub).

He is banking on the fact they are so rare, that they gotta be worth a mint. He bought them for $40, kept them a month and now is ready to sell. I bet he'd take you up on that offer if these don't sell soon. He was eager to sell, I suggested eBay to him.

Rare does not equal valuable, in my mind anyway. Some things are rare because there's a better way to do it...

I don't begrudge someone the opportunity to make a few bucks while giving someone else a good deal. OTOH, I can't personally justify paying the same for these (which appear to be ~1982 vintage if I read the photos correctly) as I would for a pair of "regular" SDA 1Cs in good condition...and I offered $300 for those in the local area recently.

Speaking of which, if anyone knows of non-CRS Polk SDAs in reasonable condition for $400 or less in the B'more/DC area, please drop me a PM...I really want to do the TL conversion on my SDA-CRS+ (thus I'm not really looking for another CRS pair) but I need to put something else in place while I'm in progress...

Good luck finding a pair of regular SDA 1C's for $300, that's a pretty rock bottom price unless they are beat up or drivers are non-functioning. $400-450 should get you in an average pair of SDA 1C non-studio's.

Of course there are always those deals of a lifetime, but don't pass on anything local that doesn't need to be shipped just hoping to pay absolute bottom dollar.

    Just IMHO,

Absolutely agree, H9. To be specific I offered $300 for the "water cooled" 1C pair that was on CL for $600 not long ago (since that was about my disposable budget at the time), and indicated interest in talking price, but never heard back at all after repeated attempts. I'm keeping my eyes open, and willing to pay a fair price--particularly for large speakers in the local area.
