Good point!
Why would you want to go through a decoder section twice. Not knowing a ton about this, I would venture to say it cannot be all that important.
Maybe it is for those that do not have a receiver with these capabilities and can be use for that purpose.
Let us know if you find out for sure.
Peace!

I have been in the new DVD market lately and there is alot of this now. Almost all new models are throwing in the decoder. I guess that the chip is so cheap now that they just add it.
I have ran into a similar problem with my new progressive DVD player and my new HD projector -they both have good progressive line doulbers and I am worred about that. They may fight or something. It gets complecated. 2cents Later:( -
if you have a DD 5.1/DTS reciever, there is absolutely no reason to have a decoder built in to the DVD player.

The other reason to have a built in decoder is for super audio or dvd audio.
But for just movie playback use the one in your receiver.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
now that i have sold my dvd player to my dad witch on to get a dvd player with sacd or with dvd audio? that is the million doller question or do i get on that has neither and wait to see witch one comes out with more titles and is accepted?

I'm pretty sure that the DD and DTS decoders in DVD players cannot be used for DVD-A and certainly not for SACD.

Check out this month's "Speaker Specialist." Polk Paul covers the new formats. Personally, SACD gets my vote.

you know there might be a few more titles for sacd, but most of the manufactores are supporting dvd-a. so i just wait and see.

it looks like it'll be a tough decision, but i'm kind of going for sacd.
