I get it ? you?re an ?if-it?s-not-the-original-it?s-not-a-Mini? kind of a guy. An ?original only? fan boy. You?ve got some serious sour grapeage going there, but as for me - & a whole lot of other folks - I?m lovin? the wine.

Obviously, you don't get it. You're just butthurt 'cause I don't like your car.

I would kill for a Sunbeam Tiger with a Ford 289. I saw a restored "sporty" version at recent local car show. Definitely not something you see on the road everyday. Same car Maxwell Smart drove in the TV series "Get Smart", but this one was on steroids.

I saw a Sunbeam Tiger that had the 289 swapped out for a 347 stroker 5.0. Engine was putting out about 425 horsepower. It was un-driveable and downright scary at the dragstrip. It's a real small car, looks even smaller with a set of slicks on the back and getting all squirrely at the little and big ends of the track.

    It looked like this:

Except it didn't have a roll cage and was orange. No skinnies up front either.

The desireable models that are restored or mildly resto-modded command a decent price these days. It used to be about 10 years ago you could get a nice driver for between $10-12K, now that same nice driver is closer to $20K with nicely done Tiger's in the $30-35K range.

Had a MINI once. Most likely never again, along with every other BMW product. The most fun you'll have behind the wheel without a doubt but that's only when you're able to drive it and it's not in the shop. Most fun, yes. Most time in the shop of any car I've ever owned, yes.

Is the "big" Mini the only one with AWD? I'm not a big FWD fan, but I do like the Mini
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

The "big" Mini? LOL It may be quick but it's still a mini-Cooper.

...personally I prefer the old school Mini, just nostalgia wise. The same with a BMW 2002, Sunbeam Tiger, Datsun 280Z, etc etc.

The old Mini's are cool, nothing says fun like side draft carbs and 10 inch wheels. I'm with you on all but the 280. 240 and 260, hell yes. The 280 was when Datsun began to make the car fatter and larger, for the fatter and larger American market they we're catering to. By the time the 300 hit, it was enormous in comparison, and generally awful still to this day. Automatic gearboxes, cup holders, a dash like the Apollo rockets. Yuk.

Incorrect. The 1980 280ZX was when it became a **** and American. The 1978-9 280Z was the last real Z....as I owned one. No power anything, 3.0 bored, polished, ported, street cam, 650 Weber, headers, Supertrapp exhaust, etc etc etc.

I stand corrected, it was the Z'X' model I was thinking of.

Damn, a 650 on 3 liter straight six? Oh yeah, petrol used to be affordable. Who needs a Ferrari, really? I'd love to have a proper, old zed.

It doesn't bother me that you don't like my car. As I said, to each his own. Just disagreed w/your assessment & reasoning.

    I always wanted a 280Z.
