    It does appear they simply did not re-register their domain name and fell into that grace period.

    The amazing thing is... this happened before exactly two years ago in May 2009. They register only 2 years out each time:

    Their web folks must not be too sharp.

    I have about 200 personal and client sites registered within my BulkRegister.com account and all set up for "Auto Renew", but even then you need to set it up to renew about 2 months in advance.

    What happens is if you don't have a large enough lead time set is that when your credit card renews, the CVV security number changes and the card becomes invalid. If you don't have enough advance warning that an Auto Renew failed, it's lights out no matter who you are. In 17 years I've never had a lapse.
