    Definitely messed up

They let their domain name expire. The host, Network Solutions, allows you time to renew before they release the name for sale. Some people see the original site due to the time it takes for all domain name servers to update.

Go to a command prompt and type in (assuming you are using Windows):

    ipconfig /flushdns

Then try it. You may be looking at cache.

Correction: Searching from the main page works fine, clicking into the search page fails. Some of the individual listings (not in cache) still seem to work, whereas others fail.

I can't believe they would let the name expire after 13 years. If I had something listed right now, I'd be raising hell with the administrators over there.

I was thinking of listing something there too? Thanks for the heads up. I'm sure they'll figure something out, hopefully?

You are resolving them via a cached dns entry most likely. Either your local DNS cache is not up to date or you ISP's DNS server hasn't updated.

If you want to see the difference:

Go to a command prompt and type in:

    nslookup www.audiogon.com (hit enter)

You will get a non-authoritative answer in the form of an IP address. Mine shows 209.62.105.19.

Next type in: ipconfig /flush dns. Now this will flush your local DNS cache but not your ISP's DNS server cache.

Again with nslookup www.audiogon.com and see what IP is reported.

Alternatively you can choose the DNS server I am using:

    nslookup (hit enter)
    server 4.2.2.2 (hit enter)
www.audiogon.com (hit enter) look at the result
    exit (hit enter to quit)

This happened to a former employer of mine years ago. The guy was a jerk and several of us left. A few weeks later we saw that he forgot to re-register (or his wife did, nepotism at it's finest). This was in the days of no real cooling off period when the domain was reserved for the original registrant.

We registered the domain, setup an email server and box with his email address. Good fun that:biggrin:

Yesterday afternoon, it seemed to work fine for me, but again today, when I try to view an ad, it gives me a blank page with:

So it seems their problems are not over.

It looks as if they failed to pay their annual domain name renewal fee and are in the grace period before it goes on the auction block to other interested parties.

Network Solutions, a domain name registrar shows they own it, so it looks as if audiogon is currently out of the picture.

If you go through the process at network solution http://www.networksolutions.com/namejet/index.jsp?dom=Audiogon.com you can bid for future registration rights. You can bid as little as $69, but the current high bid is $700

The site you see in place is generated by Network Solutions to maintain the sites search engine value/viability. If you search for "audiogon" on google and click on the "Cached" link in the search results, you can see parts of the old site, but links now lead to the new placeholder site.

I have a strong feeling the audiogon folks will renew the registration within the grace period, but right now it's fubar.

Wow, that's a major screwup. I really don't understand why companies play chicken with letting their domain names run out. Why don't they just register it for 10 years and be done with it? Although, I suppose that would make it tough to remember that in 2021, they need to renew their domain name again.

It seems Audiogon is back up and fully operational again.

I think DNS replications could take up to a day. Depending on your ISP and their DNS servers, some people seeing it working before but some people does not see it working before.
Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin:

As of right now Time Warner Cables northeast Ohio servers aren't updated and the temporary Network Solutions site is still displaying. Google is not updated yet either.

It can take from 3 minutes to 24 hours for DNS settings to propagate across the Internet to where everything points to the same web servers.

    What a mess for A'gon!
