The one on the left with three mid-woofers?

SDA 2a? Honestly I'm not sure and I have that ad here somewhere. It looks like it says SDA 1 underneath it.

Thanks. Is that the only vintage Polk speaker that had 3 mid-woofers and two tweeters?

That is the original SDAII. I have a set of those and 2b's.

The lower mid or the third one however you look at it is crossed over at a lower frequency than the other two. Kind of like a built in sub for the speaker.

I prefer the bigger bottom aspect of these to the later 2b version but do not prefer the dimensional tweeters.

I would like to have a pair of SDAs but I'm not in a hurry to purchase. I have found a pair of these for the asking price of $150. Would these be a good choice or should I wait until I find a different model? Any suggestions on the smaller SDAs. I can't use anything taller than about 38" Can you tell me how tall these speakers are?

I will have to check. Off the top of my head I think they are at least that tall but mine are on stands.

That price is about the most I would pay for the original model.

Actually there not the originals, The original SDA 2's had silver faced SL-1000 tweeters I use to have pair I bought new in 1983-4 these look like SL-2000. I know it's splitting hairs.

I had a pair of 2A's to start and then I bought a pair of 1B's. I prefer the 1B's.

TennMan, I have to apologize, I forgot to check last night. I was beat after work and just didn't think of it.

gimpod, you are correct, you are splitting hairs but the truth is they did come with the SL1000 not the SL2000 originally. The ones I have are the Silver faced SL1000 model.

Interesting... I had always thought that the two inner stereo drivers were crossed over the same. Never really bothered to look it up, though.

I also agree, the dimensional tweeter was dropped from later versions for a reason. I simply unhooked mine (and yes I am aware that changes the dynamics of the crossover), and haven't looked back. A single SL2000 per channel is more than enough, and now I have two spare tweeters for when I inevitably toast one (since I also run without polyswitches or fuses)
    Ludicrous gibs!
