Surging volume

Hello....Purchased the SB3000 to use with a brand new 50 inch LG plasma this past weekend. HDMI and digital optical hookup. On the 2nd day after setup the volume started surging....turn it back down, a couple min. later the volume surges. Blue and green lights flash while the volume is going up like someone is pushing the remote button, and nobody has tried to program the SB to work with another remote.
Outside of returning the unit or calling in an Exorcist, does anyone have any ideas on what is happening/can be done to stop this behaviour? Any info is appreciated.

    Do you have any fluorescent bulbs in the same room? I had the exact same problem when one of the bulbs was starting to wear out. I couldn't see any flicker, but apparently it was flicking at just the right frequency to randomly turn up the volume on my receiver. I replaced that bulb and haven't had the problem since.
