Ok, I have polk monitor 60s and a CS2 for a front. I got home today after buying the Onkyo sr608. Hooked the fronts and centers up. When i watch fios tv everything comes through nice and loud through the center but the 2 monitor 60s are really quiet. I can only barley hear when and the sound is only coming out pf the tweeter.

Is this suppose to happen?

Also, i dont even know if i connected the speaker wire from the speakers to the receivers the right way. I stuck the wire in the hole on the back of the speaker terminals but the receiver side, i just twisted the cable around the knob that screws out...is that right.?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the club first off.
On the receiver side, when you unscrew the speaker connection on the back of the receiver, look closely, there should be a hole in the middle of the post. Twist the wire and guide it into the whole and screw down the cap. Be carefull not to get any of the plastic outer layer of the cable in the connection, just bare wire.
Also, did you set up the receiver at all ? Read the manual ? You can't just take it out of the box, hook up wires and be done with it. There is a whole setup process that needs to happen first.
Also, did you hook up the fios with an hdmi cable to the receiver ? HDMI to the tv ?

    Thanks for the reply.

Are you talking about the big facing you on the receiver knobs?

I didnt read the manual. I 'll read the whole manual on line. I got the receiver for 300$ (store model) at pc richards and the guy couldnt find the manual or remote so he gave me a universal remote.

Yes, my fios cable box is hooked up with HDMI.

Did you check the Fios box to ensure that the signal is being sent in Dolby Digital as well?

Also are their two copper connectors between the top and bottom post on the Monitor 60's?

You need to connect both sets of post together w/ the copper connector piece, otherwise you will get sound out of either just the tweeter, or just the woofer.

Also throw in a movie quick. If you get sound out of the Monitor 60's in movie, then its your settings in the Fios box or the Onkyo, if not its a physical connection issue

    A little confused.

There 4 posts on the back of each monitor 60 (red black, red black). I connected the top 2 because i was told the bottom 2 is for bi amping???

By the copper connector piece, you mean that gold plated piece that connects goes around the posts?

Yes, you are correct, you only want one set of speaker wires connected.

Yes, If they are still there then you are fine, I just wanted to make sure you didnt take them off.

I did take them off so thats the problem i guess. Does the copper connector go on first then the speaker wire after, or put the speaker wire first and the copper connector on top of it?

Thanks for all the help guys.

Actually, that's half correct - you can use either top or bottom for normal use, as long as a jumper is in place. Put the jumper back on first, then install your speaker cable. Make sure you tighten everything snug.

I just tried it with the copper connector on first and it worked. Thanks mdaudioguy.

While you're here can you tell me this.

When i hook up the surrounds later today, can i still listen in 3.1 or do i have to play in 5.1? Just want to know if i have the option.

Yes, leave the copper in place that connects the top and bottom posts. Wire goes in the hole of the post and then screw down, doesn't matter if you use the top pair or bottom pair. Remember, no plastic from the wire should be inside that connection, or any other for that matter.

You have to go through the setup menu and tell the receiver which speakers to play with what input.

Also make sure that ALL four posts with the connecting jumper in place, are 'screwed' down tight. When I first got my M-70s I had no HIGHS because the upper posts were not making contact--not screwed down tight enough. A few twists later and all was fine!

    Good Luck!

Yes, but I can't imagine why you'd do that...
