Polk LSiM 707 at Lone Star Audio Fest 2011

Any word on release date yet?

It's a shame I'll probably never get to hear them in a showroom near me since there aren't any showrooms anymore. Not Polk's fault since any manufacturer dealer network is non-existent these days.
I'm sure I'll get my ears on them eventually and I'd have no problem buying them without hearing them...........I'm a Polkie at heart.

I've been up here most of the day, hood to meet a fee of you guys.
The lsi look and sound spectacular, sitting here listening as I type this. -
Thanks for the reviews, guys! I am wanting to hear the LsiM more so than ever.
I must resist the temptations.Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin: -
Great thread these should be driven easier because like 90 sensitivity.
this sub has me intrigued I was all set to order SVS new PB12 when it comes out. -

Hi,
Perhaps I misinterpreted your comment. Are you saying you know that the sensitivity of these speakers is 90 dB, or are you speculating? If you know its 90 dB would you mind stating the source of that information?
Thanks.
Larry -
well the Blackstone TL3 is like 90 somewhat related to these but all in all not just speculating mostly; see no reason as why not around 90-91 in that area.
have a great weekend. -

Hi,
Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will make sure to post more thorough review after demo at Russ place. I feel fortunate that we have this opportunity in Dallas, simply because for now, none of the local audio shops carry them.
By the way, from the looks of it, Polk room was one of the busiest of the show. I also agree that I would love to hear new Polk LSiM with reference gear. -
If you are interested, I posted pictures of some other rooms at the 2011 Lone Star Audio Fest. Enjoy!

Russ, here is a link to the LSAF pics I took that I promised you. Feel free to move the link to a seperate thread or whatever you need to do. It was nice to meet you and the new speakers sounded very nice!!!!

LSAF was a great event for Polk and gear...LSiM are definately a contender...personally the 707 were to large for the room, but WOW. But these are most definately going to be the most musical polks from hi to lo released in a decade. Had a great time meeting outstanding audio enthusiasts and broadened my journey to audio bliss....thanks Russ, Marvin, Skip, Danny, Steve Odenheimer and many others...especially LSAF for making this a great event.2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures

Shane, outstanding.
Thanks!!
My old 5B's are a far cry from those beauties you had playing!!! I honestly haven't listened to many Polks over the last 10-15 years as I've been very satisfied with my little monitors, but I have to say those were the best sounding ones I have heard since some of the original designs. Very balanced and I think they will do well. -
After thinking about it, this is what I think of the 707s... They have all the extension and air of a ribbon, along with about as much detail, but lack the coloring that ribbons can bring. The sound is extremely integrated from top to bottom, but like others, I thought those 707s were far too much speaker for the room they were in. Probably be about right in my living room. Also, what Russ has been saying about power is very right. These are going to need big amps. And when I say big, I mean about 300 wpc minimum to sound good.
Also, talking to the Polk sales guy there, he mentioned that they're considering a new sub for the LSiM line. I basically begged him to do it. I just hope Polk takes into consideration the frequencies present on most blu-rays now, and gives us something that gives usable extenstion down into the 12-14 Hz area.Turntable: Empire 208

So, is it a forgone consensus that LsiM series will benefit significantly from high-current amps even more so than the current LSi? a fact that perhaps will be part of the marketing collateral of the recommended amplification?I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.
-
I definitely see myself owning a pair of these down the road. For me, Polk makes the kind of speaker that is affordable but creates the impulse to hook it up to gear that far exceeds the speaker cost. For me, this was especially true for the Rti and Lsi series.
PS welcome back Nikolas812! I haven't seen you around for a while. -
That's funny Bluefox, had to improvise, a small Polk banner would have been great but wire mgmt was not my top priority and wasn't about to have a rats nest in the photos. Oh, and it helped to tame a room node and odd order harmonic in that suite. Yeah thats it.

Hi,
Please forgive what may be a naive remark, but so far all we know is that these speakers, like the previous LSi series are 4 ohm. We don't know the efficiency, recommended power handling, etc., so how does a demo without a comparision of the prior series permit us to ascertain whether it requires high-current amplifiers more than the LSi?
Larry -
Guessing what I can see from the pictures (by the way, nice pictures Shane!), new LSiM seems to shine with a moderate 200+ Watt amp since it's paired with the Odyssey Monobloc.
I recall another thread from the Polk demo to unveil LSiM line a while back. If I recall correctly, I saw the LsiM 707 was paired with Audio Research 110W Monobloc Tube Amps.
So, can't really say these LSiM 707 are very efficient speakers. I guess they are more in line with the current LSi series for the power requirement.
But the good news according to Russ is that the better your gear, the better LSiM sounds.
I am counting on it.Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin: -
Now you've got my attention! Please explain more about the TL3's & having the LSI sound. Do they require a lot of power? or could I hook them up to my little Cambridge Soundworks amplifier/subwoofer and replace the CSW satellites with the TL3's and have them sound good.
I don't want to have to hook up these speakers to a receiver, my SW system is just for my pc.
SoundWorks?
Three-channel Amplifier Specifications
Satellite amplifier: One channel driven into a 3.2
ohm load at less than 1% total harmonic distortion, at
1kHz: 4 watts RMS.
Subwoofer amplifier: Driven into a 3.5 ohm load,
at less than 1% total harmonic distortion, at 100Hz:
13 watts RMS.
Music power, satellite section, 8.4 watts + 8.4
watts. Subwoofer section: 33.3 watts.
These specifications apply to a SoundWorks operating
from its external 12v, 1.5A power supply connected
to a 120VAC souce. The biggest surprise for me was the TL2 and TL3. These are great products that shouldn't be overlooked. They were paired with the DSW Pro 440wi and filled the room with impressive sound. If you are looking for some new desktop speakers or want a "cheaper" but solid setup for a home theater, put these on the top of your list. If you are a fan of the LSi sound, you will definitely dig the TL3's, and at $300 a pair, they are a bargain.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -

the only comparison between the blackstone tl3 and the lsim is that they both use the same tweeter

They are not the same tweeter by any means. Cathy, we ran the TL3 on a battery powered tripath amp along with the DSW440wi wireless sub and it was fan-friggin-tastic. The 440 is essential the same as your 400, just with wireless capability.
Cheers

I'd be interested to hear how the Operettas sound compared to the Odyssey gear. The Operetta design is curious. I don't like the idea of those cooling fans for low level listening.
