Is there a tube power amp, new, that would drive the monitor 60's (90 db eff) for under $500 ?

I spent some time reading forum posts etc, ..getting overwhelmed (I have never used tube equip)

Thx, from the tube wannabe,

A Radii tube amp would do them justice at only 8 watts. I'd have to go digging through the attic to find out which model, though. Damn nice sound.

Radii, Dared, Antique Sound Lab (ASL), Norh, Grant Fidelity are a few that would work and not break the bank. Most would be used (rather than new) and some will have fixed bias, some will auto bias and some need to have the bias set. Not difficult just do your research so you understand what you're getting and the differences between them.

Do you think those 52 tube Watts would be enough to drive some Monitor 70's?

So do most folks who have ever owned it. ....freakin' nice little ol' amp, eh? Unfortunately, you will have to get back in line. No, I'm not kidding. There actually is a line to buy it back. That right there says something about the amp.

This is quite an experience .. I have not heard of *any* of these fine companies, so I see I might have gotten in a SS 'rut'...

Thank you all for your kind suggestions, and I now will begin some earnest research...I figured the 60's are efficient enough for tubes..

Just to be 100% clear Yaqin is a Chinese company they build the amps and then the Canadian distributor sells and backs them up.

I've seen a bit of a mixed bag on Yaqin gear, more positives than negatives for sure. But people said Dared was a mixed bag too and I have 3 Dared pieces; they are very nice and dead solid reliable. To be fair the Dared stuff is a bit more expensive and in this case the extra expense shows in how it's built and performs.

But Yaqin would be a nice place to start especially if you can get stateside support. Dared has stateside support in Naperville IL. Joe Zhou is a great guy.

So you have a handful of people that actually want to use it, vs it sitting in the attic? How's that work?

It's in need of repair. I still want to try it on another rig before I let her go. Within a couple of months I will know whether or not to release her or keep her. The "magic smoke" got the best of her, if you ever read the thread I made a while back.

She will be back in action one of these days and believe it or not? She looks the same as when Lou got it.

I didn't know it had a failure, no. That amp has been around the block a few times. I just think it begs to be listened to, I couldn't bare it sitting in a box!

On the evaluation of the Focal 807v's I had written up, I had mentioned that "Olympic Fanfare" sounded the best with this amp [most realistic on the Tympani's I have ever heard]. 'Till this day, it still stands. That amp rocks.

Plans are already in place to get her up and rolling again. I feel ashamed that she isn't singing to someone today. Thanks for making me feel bad.....but alas...I deserve it. :frown:

i had a 60 watt jolida on my usher 6381 speakers 87db, 8 ohm with no problems. i also had the jolida on a pair of 4ohm 86db bookshelves with no problems. it all depends on room size and how loud you play your music. the 52 is not far off and you might be able to ring a few more watts with 6ca7 power tubes.
there's also the option of moving to the kt88 based yaqin but it is $237 more at 60 watts.

this is from a review of the st-70
"The ST70 is said to deliver 35wpc. I have seen many reports contradict this power rating, stating instead that this is in the 20-25wpc.
