Ceiling Mount Options for LSi7s?

Hi All,
I just purchased some LSi7s to use as surround speakers in my 5.1 system which currently consists of LSi9s and LSiC. Currently I'm using Polk Audio M5s as the surround speakers. These speakers are very convenient and were easy to mount, but I'm unsatisfied with their sound and moved to the LSi7s as they would match better with the rest of the LSi speakers in my system.

Now that I have the speakers, I'm not sure how I am going to mount them. As you can see from the pictures below, wall mounting is not an option in this room. Has anybody ceiling mounted LSi7s? Is it even possible? I've looked at the Omnimount 30.0 CA (http://www.omnimount.com/Product/Speaker_Mounts/Stainless_Steel_Series/30-0_CA/), but I'm not sure it will attach to the Power Port securely enough, and it also looks like I will have to drill a second hole in the Power Port.

If you have any experience mounting LSi7s or other similar size speakers, please let me know what my options might be.

One other thought I had is to give up on the LSi7s and mount a pair of LC80i or LC80fx in the ceiling. Does anyone have any feedback on either of those options? Would the LC80is work as surround speakers? I realize they don't have bipole dipole configuration option, but they can also be had a lot cheaper than the LC80fxs.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Funny, I am going to undertake this exact same thing tomorrow. I hung my Fxi surrounds using the Omni 20.0 wall mount, gonna do the same with the 7's. It works great without any additional drilling in the speakers. Due to the weight of these types of speakers make sure you are drilling straight into the studs, skip the drywall anchors.

Go In ceiling. The LC80i's will work perfectly if you place them correctly. You will be more then happy with them in that duty and they will look 100% better then bookshelf speakers hanging off the ceiling. If money is a concern , then go with the LC60i's , they will also perform above your expectations.

One thing I suggest is back boxes for maximum performance. We use Dynabox which really tighten up the sound not to mention not transfer the sound to the above floor ( if you have a room above).

    Go check out the website.

That's a really great idea for a product! At retail price, they are really expensive - I would say at about 40 or 50 dollars they would sell these faster than they could make them. At 170, maybe not. Do you know of any alternatives for those of us that are a little more price-sensitive?

I've had good results with a tube of sylicone and a sheet of home depot "exterior foam board" material (can't remember what it's called) and built boxes with that. Keeps the loose insulation out and provides a fair amount of sound absorbsion of the back-noise..

Thanks for the replies! Right now, I'm leaning towards in-ceiling, but have a couple of questions regarding each method.

@carwashguy, are you mounting the speakers straight down from the omnimounts or angled toward the listening position? Would you be able to send me a couple of pictures of how they look installed? Especially, how the mount attaches to the keyhole and Power Port.

@mantis, do you have any experience with the newer Vanishing Series 80 FX-LS speakers? Would they be less sensitive to placement than the LC80is or LC60is? I'm starting to get into multi-channel music a little bit. Is the diffuse effect good for music, or would I be better off with a speaker that doesn't offer it? Or, since the 80 FX-LS offer offers a switchable setting should I just go with them? Also, thanks for the dynabox suggestion. I was wondering about that, or about the enclosures the Polk offers, although it looks like the Polk enclosures are designed for installations where the wallboard isn't up yet.

@DaveMuell, are you opening up the ceiling then building those boxes inside the drywall? The fact that you can fold up the dynabox to fit it in the opening, and then just have it expand out into a perfect box shape is appealing to me, despite the cost.

    Thanks!
