Upgradding from Polk rti series to Goldenear Technology?
I have the system in my sig which I am wanting to upgrade from. My dad is purchasing my old system for around $1000. I thought the Triton Two system from Goldenear Technology would be a good choice since most reviews stated I would not need a separate sub woofer and the system does an amazing job for the price. What do you guys think? My room is not that big 15x13 I guess.

Be sure to go and listen to these first before you buy. There are also a few threads posted here on the forum. Cheers. -

You definitely would not need to add a sub. That's for sure.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
I actually heard a set and while Ok for HT they are wwaaaayyyy to bloated in the bass department IMHO. I actually liked a set of Paradigm Studio 20's much more than the GoldenEar Triton 2's and they are less expensive to boot  They didnt go as low but heck you could get 2 Studio 20's and a really really nice sub for the price of the Triton Two's."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Ok after looking over your existing system , I can see the lust for the Golden Ear system. I still have not heard them for myself but I need to take some time off of work and get my tour on. Every year I tour all our stores and listen to the latest models. We probably will pick up the Golden Ear line but right now it doesn't make any sense. We are heavy into Definitive Technology and they are a fantastic line.
If you are liking the Golden ear system , check out the Definitive Technology STS system. For your room I see them putting the biggest smile on your face. They do not require a separate sub. The system would be the STS fronts , 9 center and a pair of Gem rears. If your more into music then get 9's for rears as well. With this new speaker package I suggest picking up a Pioneer Elite SC-35. This is a perfect match and will destroy your room. This combo we sold so many times and no matter what room it went into , it destroyed.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
Thanks for the suggestions. The Definitive Technology STS system looks nice but the cost for the 2 towers is almost the same and a full 5 speakers from Goldenear. I'm going to go demo them sometime this week after work and I'll let you guys know my thoughts. The center Chanel from the Triton system looks weak compared to the L/R to me. Then again, I haven't heard it yet.My System

It was LeroyJr's and I believe its not on the market anymore."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
Just listened to a pair of Goldenears in a stereo setup last week and the are very articulate and not bloated at all. Didn't get a chance to listen in a HT setup but as with anything the calibration of the setup and the room has a ton to do with that.
Definitely give them a listen, I think you will be quite pleased with what you hear.Main Setup
Fronts - Energy RC-50's
Center - Energy RC-LCR
Rear - Energy RC-R's
Subs - Gone...
AVR - Pioneer SC-37
Blu-Ray - Sony BDP-S360

I would say for goldenear best for HT, for 2 channel not my cup of tea.
They sound very much like def techs Mythos ST's and STS. I would image they would however seeing the founder of Goldenear also was a player in Polk and Def Tech. -
I drove up to a dealer and listened to them for 2 hours yesterday. They sound excellent and have a very deep and defined soundstage. The tweeters were very nice and not too bright. The dealer was running them on $4,000 worth of Rotel separates so I am trying to figure out how they will sound on my mid level $1000 Onkyo receiver. He said I could buy the speakers and test them for a few days and bring them back for a full refund if I don't like them. Can't go wrong with that. My only concern is the center channel and the surrounds. Still haven't seen the whole system in a HT setup, just stereo listening. The problem like someone already mentioned is once you get into this kind of budget you have many speaker lines you can choose from. I am also looking at the studio 60 Paradigm line as well. They sound nice for the price and might be better suited for HT than Goldenear's smaller center and surrounds. My System

Also one other question, If I buy a used Onkyo receiver will they still honor the warranty if it breaks? What about another brand like Rotel? My System

If you buy from Accessories4less.com they have a 1 year manufacture warranty and are factory refurbed so its about as good as you get.
Otherwise I dont think you will get the warranty honored."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963)
