Sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip........

A few days ago (I'm on vacation visiting my folks in Maine, btw) I'm sitting on the crapper and the only reading material available was Uncle Henry's Swap and Sell magazine (which is essentially a large classified advertisement listing for all of New England)....anyway, so I'm thumbing through the new issue, and what do I find listed only 10 mins away from my parents house????

A pair of Carver Amazing Loudspeakers. I tell you, I damn near fell off the throne. I was literally pulling up my drawers RUNNING to find the lovely Wendi (to ask permission and to her credit, she blessed it immediately as long as they were in good shape). After a couple of days of phone tag, I finally got in touch with him and made arrangements to check them out. I found my way out the the guy's house (he and his wife are two of the nicest people that you would EVER have met) and they are the original Amazing Loudspeaker (same that Tour2ma has) in all but mint condition. The ONLY flaws on the speakers are a couple tiny snags in the grill cloth, only noticeable if you really look. The ribbons and 12" drivers (all 8 of them) are as new. He also had the original boxes, packing materials, manuals and receipts.
I must credit the lovely Wendi for being SO understanding about them, she didn't balk on iota on them. I'd also like to thank George Grand for (in addition to a lot of other things) initially introducing me to the Amazing Loudspeaker.

Anyway, they are in the boxes and won't be able to play with them until I get home next week but HELL YEAH, Acoustic Zen Whoopie is on the horizon.

    Damn Good on ya TD...

In case you don't know, do NOT transport these speakers lieing flat (can eff up the ribbons).

Best transport is upright, but if that is not practical, on their side will do.

What is it, a two-day drive home? I can see the CA's checking into the Holiday Inn now.... :D

May the rain stay off your road home...

    Congrats bro...

BTW I'm overpacking the M400 now for FedEx tomorrow.
    More later,
    Tour...

    Tour,

Coolness on the amp, the lovely Wendi has the check, if not IN the mail will be ASAP. I don't want you to think I'm a slo-pay ****.

Matter o' fact, I JUST made hotel reservations for the trip home next to Giants Stadium as we are seeing Springsteen on Sunday....

I've got to work on positioning them for transport in the back of the truck for the trek....

Maybe this is what Wendi was angling for... :D

And if I was worried about the check, I wouldn't be packing them now...

Awesome Troy, like we've always said, you can have ANYTHING you want, if you are just willing to WAIT.

The wait paid off! $500 bones? UN HEARD OF.

Time to get your open-baffle on, time to get your ribbon on!

**** I'm happy for you, DQ10's, Carver Amazings, SDA coming up on my visit - You've turned into quite the audio connoisseur!!!

I can't WAIT to come see you, well, come see your gear that is.

    Cheers,
    Happy Russ

You may already be on this road, but nab a couple pieces of cheap, 4 x 8 plywood to help distribute the load to the braces.

I wish I could be there as well...

Man, to be honest, I don't even know. My head is still spinning. I've got the SDA box checked for all intents and purposes, although a pair of big SDA's has some allure....

Actually, next will probably be a pair of Quad-63's. I'd like a pair of the Quad 57's but have heard too many horror stories about arcing and so forth.

Maggies are for Russ to bag....I can't bag ALL the good stuff and give him a complex and all.

CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Troy congrats on the amazings, I used to hang out at the local audio store at the mall just to listen to those in the back room when they first came out and all I can say is that they ARE truely amazing. They powered thiers with a couple of carver mono blocks and damn those sounded sooooo good, they had to run me off at closing time every weekend.

There are a pair of maggies for sale here local for 150, if anyone is interested in them I will call to see what model # they are, I have been meaning to call but havn't had a chance.

    Cheers,

CONGRATS TROY!!!!!!! Are those the same ones that Mr. Grand owns? Please tell us how they sound once you have them hooked up(dynamics, soundstage, etc). Man I want some big speakers now. A Klipsch La Scala is on my list once I have another 2ch room. I hope I could score cheap on a pair of those. How may watts/channel will they receive in your rig? What's the nominal impedance and sensitivity?

Thank you on behalf of TD...

The CA's he "stole" are the originals, as are mine. GG's are the Platinums, which were the third and last generation of the CA line.

Spec-wise they're 4 ohm and sensitivity is only 85 dB, so they do take a bit of power. Carver recommends 1200 wpc (8 ohm amp rating) to drive them to their full potential with a 200 wpc min.

I know Troy is fixing to have a pair of Carver M-400's, which can be bridged to 400 watts continuous with some headroom. But he may have something else in mind...
