Blu-ray player that also does SACD...

...man, you guys are all over the place with these. I searched the forum and got so many results going off is so many tangents that I just decided to ask outright.

I'm not springing for one just yet. I probably won't be getting one until this summer. I started looking now and all I see on the Intarwebs is how great the Playstation 3 is and you guys seem to go for that Oppo BDP-95 which is a grand worth of wampum and far more than I want to spend. I'm thinking more in the 300-400 clams range.

So the question is, is there a decent Blu-ray player that also handles the high resolution music formats like SACD, DVD-A and so on with a decent audio output for 300-400 bones or less you can recommend? This isn't going in any high end rig. It's just for the living room TV. When I go doing a hardcore HT system or something then I'll worry about the hottest thing going. Right now, utility duty with some nice features and an audio output decent enough that it won't sound like badgers farting in Lederhosen.

To stay in your budget , find a used Oppo 83. It's a rock solid player that can if you want be placed into a higher end rig. No streaming just pure audio and video performance.

I personally own the Cambridge Audio Azur 650BD which is $800.00 retail. If you can find one used in your price range , then jump on it. It's a really nice fast loading music and movies player that also does Sacd and Dvd Audio formats. It's also a hell of a cd player.

If DVD A can be deleted from your search a used Sony Ps3 older model will be a Gem. It has a internal hard drive of 80g which you can store regular CD's and have a small music server as well as a BD / Sacd player. You get the bonus of Gaming 2 and Sony has a entire online store you can rent movies and stuff. This could be the best bang for the buck player if you can live without DVD A.

Yo a Oppo just showed up in the flea market , some dude from NJ has one for sale at 399. Im sure you can make him a generous offer and get it.

Last years line and the lastest line of Sony's BluRay player's can play SACD but do not play DVD Audio.

They connect through HDMI. The prices start from $129.00 and up. Good bang for you buck if DVD-A is not a concern. They are always on sale at many locations!

I don't have a wealth of information to offer, John but I can offer you this. I do not recommend the Sony BDP-S570 Blu-Ray player. It does one hell of a good job on the Blu-Ray's but when it comes to SACD's? I'd rather listen to a redbook version of the same CD or the redbook layer of a hybrid on the Jolida if I didn't have an SACD player.

Here's why. There is some sort of echo going on with the sound. It's like some of the material is replayed milliseconds later to add some sort of effect. I have not found a way yet to disable it, and even if I did? The overall sound is not as good as my all too well known Denon 2910. I know it sounds like I'm doggin' the hell out of the unit. I'm not. It's a great Blu-Ray player, just doesn't do well at all for SACD's.

I have wondered how a company like Sony can produce some very nice SACD players like the 3 series and up, but when they put together a unit that will play BluRay and SACD the playback of other discs is just so so except BluRay. if it's about cutting corners to keep cost down then why not just put out a BluRay player and skip the extras..

I would check your settings as I owned the one that you have and also now own the model above it and I have not noticed any of what you have experienced.

I do not use my 770 as my dedicated SACD plater but I will run a few through it this week and report back.

I have found nothing in the settings that would eliminate the echo and as of about a month ago, I am updated on the latest software, firmware or whatever needs to be updated every so often. If you find something, please let me know.
