nowink.gifBut...but...but...reading or printing something out from the forum doesn't have the same magical, mystical effect on your peepee as that big, thick book.

Yeah, you're right. I didn't want to admit it, but I do keep one under my mattress.~DK

Well hell, now I want one!

Ok, several things. First I apologize to DK. I did not know that this was a copywrited piece. Next by distributed "freely" I did not mean for free. I meant freely as in whoever wanted to purchase a copy. Next, why is this valuable piece of literature that any Polkie would love only available to a select few? Why not make it available to anyone who wants it? I don't understand why it's treated like Gollum's precious.

DK. I very much admire your very intelligent posts. Your audio knowledge and understanding is vast and rational. Why must obtaining a compendium be like a quest for the holy grail? Lastly, what is the point of having a copywrited piece of wanted literature if not to make money. Many here would gladly pay. I know you are busy like the rest of us, but this is far from the first post wanting a copy. I'm not trying to be an a$$ or get around whatever process you have for distribution I'm just trying to understand why this particular document is so difficult to obtain when we all here are fans and most would love to read it and like myself, pay for the privilege.

Please be advised that authentic copies with Matthew Polk's signature have double the mojo enhancement power and bring double the peepee perks.

The interest in the Compendium is flattering, but let's not get carried away. I did make them available to anyone who wanted them. The first and second editions were made available to anyone who wanted one. They were offered for sale on this forum, on eBay and on Audiogon.

It's not...at least not by me.

I, and many others keep repeating that most of the information in the Compendium is available on this forum! It is not like, if you DON'T have an SDA Compendium, you are missing out on deep, dark, mystical, magical SDA secrets that only a select few "privileged" SDA cultists have.

Anything that anyone wants to know about SDA's can be found through a simple search or simple inquiry on this forum and other places on the web. Crossover schematics, modification tutorials, SDA history, it's all right on the forum, much of it posted by me.

Some people act as if I have some "monopoly" on SDA information and that I am withholding "secrets".

There are many reasons for not commercializing something at a particular time. I'm sure you aware of the concepts of "limited edition" or "merchandise available for a limited time only". Ortofon only made 400 copies of their "statement", commemorative 90th anniversary "A90" phono cartridge. Although they could probably sell every A90 they make, Ortofon says it's not worth the trouble to continue making them and they would rather concentrate on products that are less difficult to manufacture and which bring higher profit margins.

It is difficult to obtain because it is out of print. This is true of at least eleven billion other books. Books, CD's, LP's, etc. all go out of print for various reasons. Indeed, the subjects of the SDA Compendium, SDA loudspeakers, are somewhat difficult to obtain (in excellent condition) because they were discontinued 20 years ago. There are still questions from time to time about why these wonderful speakers were discontinued.

There is such a thing as coming late to a party and getting to the dock after the ship has sailed.

Well, there shouldn't be any "mystique" about information that is available for the asking. Don't buy into the hype.

It happens. I think "that book" probably would have faded into obscurity if some fellows didn't periodically and explicitly talk about the peepee perks.

Kelvin, that's cool. I just misunderstood your post.

Thank you DK and H9. I (and probably several others) now have a much better understanding of the non-issue. So, if you ever decide to publish edition 3 or do another run of edition 2 I'd like to get my hands on one.

As for all the information being here on the forum. I find this forum's search function to be frustrating at the best of times. That, and I'm a "hold it in you hand" kind of person. I don't get into e-zines nearly as much as magazines. And I'm sure one of the main reasons to make it in the first place was to have all the info in one convenient hold in the hands, while doing one's daily constitutional, place. Just out of curiosity, how long ago was it last made available and how much did it sell for at that time? Thanks again.

The cost was $30 plus shipping, IIRC, around October of 2007 was about the time the 2nd edition dried up.
