How do you store your pots and pans

This one is for my wife. We're in the initial stages of planning a kitchen update.

Our big pots and pans are currently in cupboards and the drawer below our conventional stove/oven. The new plan will call for separates so that drawer will be lost.

I like the wrought iron "thingies" where pots and pans hang out in the open for easy access. My wife likes them out of sight.

So how's your kitchen arranged, Out of sight, Hanging around, or "Other"?

I voted out in the open. Not hainging but sitting on top of our kitchen cabnets. We have about 18" inches between the cabnets and the celing so that is where our pans go. It might not be the best solution but kitchen cabnet space is a preimum and didnt want to fill it up with pots and pans.

When I remodeled our kitchen I put in an island with a cooktop, and the cookware is under the cooktop sitting on slideout drawers.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

I am glad I thought to put "Other" and I appreciate the feedback as I never even thought of the 2 obvious solutions already given!

It also helps if your cook wear is desent looking. If it is a miss matched set that shows its age then it should probably be out of site.

Ours is a nice dark grey hard anodize capthalon set. So it looks good sitting out.

All of the above. Some on a pot rack, some in drawers (we don't have any cupboards except under the sinks), some just on the cooktop, ready for action.

Crammed in whatever cabinet they will fit, in no sense of order whatsoever. Sometimes I have to kick the door closed.

I voted "Other" 'cause I wear them on my head. Different pot for each day of the week, two on Sundays! I do have a special pot with lots of dings in it. That's for playing Matchbox cars under the dining room table.

I'm one of the three so far that choose out in the open. We have all of the stainless steel pots/pans/sifters/splatter screens and mixing bowls all on an IKEA stainless steel rack with all my cooking knives on a magnetic stainless steel strip off to the side of it. I was very hesitant to install them both because that part of the kitchen looks out into the living room and the dining room but because we have a smaller kitchen and I needed extra cabinet space to get things off the counter [less clutter, more room to work, easier to clean], I chose to ultimately install them.

Well, I went ahead and installed them and I get more compliments on both of them then I ever expected. It has become a real convenience, it's easy to store things on it and it's real nice to not not have to squat down and lift up the weight of 5 pans to get the one down at the bottom that you want. Nope, not anymore. Just walk over and grab the pot/pan that you want.

Not to mention the added room in not one, but two of the lower cabinets. Then there's the convenience of hanging garlic, bananas, the ripening of vegetables on the top of the rack and the fact that your pots and pans look newer, longer because the outside of the pans don't get dings or scratched up due to having to stack them.

This may not work with every kitchen. It may not work with some decor or WAF but in this house? The addition of both have been a godsend. They look the complete opposite of what I thought it would look like and the kitchen is much easier to work in now. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

All Clad on a stainless steel rack. The stuff hanging gets used a LOT more than the stuff tucked away in cupboards.

I'm installing a open-air rack in my kitchen this weekend! I've had mine in the cabinets for years and finally got tired of it..

If done correctly, with a kitchen styled for that setup, it can look pretty cool. But you need to have an industrial or restaurant styled kitchen to pull it off, IMO.

x2. Mine are under the oven and in a big cabinet drawer. The 2 I use the most typically stay on the stove top unless we have company...then we throw em in the stove

The problem is, hanging pots need to be part of a kitchen "themed" for that type of look. If you can pull it off, you'd want to go minimal on additonal decorations, otherwise the kitchen gets too busy looking.

We have an open floor plan (great room) with family room, dining room, and kitchen are all together, so the kitchen is completely viewable from the main area of the house. To off-set this, we keep the kitchen relatively simple, counters as clear as possible. The only appliance on the counter is the coffee maker.

That's exactly what I did. Turned out real nice, however I am not "themed" for that kind of look. I'll have to snap some photos.

Out of sight. I don't care how good they look, seeing pots and pans is fugly and a distraction in any home.

My bro hangs his from a rack in the kitchen, nothing but an eye sore and it's all you notice when looking at the kitchen.

My wife likes them out of sight, and I like them out in the open. That's why i started this thread, hoping to find support for my preference. Oh well, she wins by a ratio of 5 to 1.

I never cook at home, but when we vacation, we rent houses and I do all of the cooking and cleanup. I guess I've never really thought about what it looks like, but the convenience of grabbing a pan for use, and then simply re-racking it after washing really appeals to me and saves time.

At any rate, our new plans will keep everything out of sight.

My wife didn't like the idea of a pot rack either, but she ended up liking this one. It is smaller than I would have originally liked, but it ended up fitting into the space nicely.

It is not hanging out in the open, but fitted in between the uppers that are over the refrig and the oven (in wall).

We had two extra deep drawers built under out cooktop. Too many pots and pans to think about hanging. Not to mention, they are way more convenient, and no dust layer to deal with for seldom used items.
