They are exactly the same, except for the faceplate, and the Onkyo has a "Pure direct" mode that turns off all video processing. For some reason that feature is missing on the Integra.

Pure audio turns off all audio processing (Audyssey, Bass management etc.) and also turns off all video processing. It's supposed to give a cleaner sound. There is also a "direct" mode that turns everything except video that is on both models.
My main point was that hardware wise, the two units you listed are identical, pick the one with the better price. It's usually easier to get bigger discounts on Onkyo, as Integra is usually only sold through installers.
BTW, I had the previous Onkyo, the PR-SC885. It ran very hot, so do the new ones, so I doubt you will see lower room temps. They run just as warm as any receiver I've had, maybe warmer. Not sure what you mean about better compatability with the Sunfire. They still only put out 1V on the pre-outs, if you were looking for more there. -

If this is what your after I really think you should take a look at the marantz av7005 . Its cool running and great for movies, I think it will be my next purchase -
The Onkyo has Audyssey MultEQ XT32. The Marantz does not have it. I have the TX NR5008 which is alot the same as the 5508. I think you will be very happy with the Onk.Onkyo TX NR 5008 modified by The Upgrade Company

This is a debate thats gone on for years. I'd like to see proof. Try to get a straight answer out of Onkyo.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -

I've had an 885 and a 9.8 open side by side. They were identical. The transformer on the Onkyo 885 even said "Custom made for Integra" on it. They also used the same firmware. Have also looked at service manuals for the two models, they use all the same part numbers. I never realised there was any debate.
Look around the net, owners have posted photos of the inards of each brand.
