So people don't sing live at concerts anymore?

So I am reading this article on Britney Spears' upcoming tour and how Enrique Iglesias ditched the tour within 24 hours of her announcing of his participation. However, the following from the article struck me as odd....
Britney doesn't sing live anymore and barely dances, but her tours always make big bucks for a concert industry riddled with low ticket sales

So why does anyone pay to go see her show? Am I that "old school" that I shouldn't expected to hear some live singing at a concert nowadays? I mean, I can understand some lip-sync happening at this type of shows....but not one single song sung live? And no dancing??!! For the price of her tickets ($115 or $372), I should get some kind private dance from Britney

I'm not sure why anyone would want to go see her. Tony is 110% right.

The Wailin Jennys sing live. Not only that, they traditionally sing their final encore, The Parting Glass, utterly a cappella (no microphones, no electronics, no speakers) to close their shows. Three stunning voices. No pitch correction.

Lots of "pop" artists (and yes, I use the term artist loosely) don't sing live, and haven't for a long time. The best singer in the world couldn't sing well while dancing and bouncing around.

Also... she's a pop star catering to teenage girls. Is it really a surprise that an adult male doesn't like her music? That's like asking why anyone would ever watch Barney or something.

I apologize to any Britney fans out there but I can find more talent and better looks at the local Wal-Mart for free and I live in a rural area of the South, if that tells you anything. If you don't get "live" at a live show then an overpriced $10.00 CD or DVD for Britney would do just fine for the lack of talent you see.

Personally? I'd rather spend that $10.00 to give to the Donald Trump champagne fund. I'm quite sure it will be many times more well spent there.

Nooooooooooooooo. It's all about the "experience", the (soft core sexual) fantasy being played out on stage. Teenage boys want to do Britney and teenage girls want to be (as sexy and desirable as) Britney.

not surprising these days.. with today's "musical artists", they can't sing live.. they relay to much on studio "tricks" to make them sound good.

I had a conversation recently with one of the editors of Stereophile magazine talking about the same thing. Damned shame.

I think Auto Tune is just to hard to produce at a live show to get these no tallent singers to sound "Marketable". It is much easer to hit play on a media player. You have to have a good voice and tallent to sing live. The jean pool is pretty shallow if non existant in the pop world.

Do a You tube search for a live video of any Ke$ha song. It really shows how bad she sounds.

Doesnt surprise me at all, there are few that can carry a tune at all let alone have perfect pitch. Fergie, The pussycat dolls, Katy Perry are just a few examples of absolutley zero singing ability.

Surprisingly enough Pink and Lady GaGa no matter how much you dislike their lifestyle or songs can actually sing, their songs sound the same live as they do on their studio recordings.

Britney never really did sing live. Always lip sync and this happens a lot with pop music today. Now throw in auto-tune and if they do decide to sing live they never have to worry about being in tune.

To correct you heading. "People with no talent like Britney Spears lipsync in concert".

I prefer my singers to have talent like: Sara Evans, Brad Paisley, Styx, Iron Maiden, and people that actually use instruments in concert. I have never needed to see any of the so called Pop Stars in concert. Probably because Pops Stars on average are more about There Look, Dancing and Posing than the music they fake singing.

PS, Any song with Auto-tune in it is ignored by me. That is why I hate most of the songs on Glee and I only watch it on occasion cause the wife loves that stupid show.

It is just amazing to me that grown men are arguing over a kid's pop singer, and comparing her to actual artists, as if anyone is gonig to disagree with you.

It's like comparing the latest Hannah Montana movie to Casablanca. It doesn't even make sense. Let it go.

Good point Bobman, but then again, this is Club Polk, where we argue over $1.50 for a pizza.

Personally, I wouldn't pay to see anyone lip sync their music. I gather those that do are more interested in the vegas style show on stage that goes with many pop concerts these days. My idea of a live concert, for example, is what Springsteen does.

Compare that performance with the same recorded studio song and you will hear the difference is vast, anyone can repeat the words but to make it sound like the song that was recorded on the CD is difficult if not impossible for most icluding Katy Perry, sorry the words dont flow like they should, the timing, pitch etc is way off.

If you were to hear a true performer like Willie Nelson for example his concerts sound the same as his studio recordings that is the mark of a true talented artist
