Hi -- I have a pair of Polk Monitor Series 2 speakers built in 1991 with a MW6502 driver. I just bought a new Sherwood receiver and was told (after the purchase) that if my speakers aren't 8 ohm speakers, they will break the receiver. I've been inside and out of my speakers and can't find and reference to ohms. I'm looking for my users manual, but I thought I'd check in here to see if anyone knew the answer. Thanks.

99% percent sure they are 8 ohm. Thinking only Polk's LSi series is 4 ohm.

Hey, before you hook those speaks up. Get a ohm meter and check it out. Should read 8ohms + or - .6 if it a 8 ohm speaker.

I bet closer to 6 ohms if you back out a meter, but don't worry about that.

Thanks all for the feedback. We finally heard back from Polk, and they tell us it's 8 ohm.

On speakers like the LSi line would it work to remove the bi-wire jumpers and wore the posts in series? By that I mean have + from the receiver wired to the top red post, - from the receiver to the bottom black post, and a jumper connecting the top black to the bottom red post. Would that create an 8 ohm load?
