Sony STR-DE197 power Polk Audio Monitor 70 and PSW110

I currently own a Sony STR-DE197 receiver. Would this be sufficient to power the Polk Audio Monitor 70's? I read that you can blow speakers from underpowering them and rather not waste $400+.

Also, I know this is not usually recommended, but can I wire the receiver to the PSW110 to the 70's? I would rather not have to buy a new receiver, but if that is the only way, any suggestions?

The monitor 70,s are not that difficult to power, you should be fine. I had my monitor 70,s powered by A SONYES5300, they sounded great. You have a " smaller" receiver however the monitor series are not that difficult to power. FYI the 70,s sounded a lot better when I added an amp..........................

I have an Emotiva XPA5, it powers everything with ease, my rear surround speakers ( FXI3,s) are powered by my ES5300.

EMOTIVA, has an end of year sale, the current price for an XPA5 is $899, on sale it will probably be $799, you have plenty of time...........

That Sony will run your M70s--just don't PUSH It because the 70s will and can clip that Receiver, so don't try to blast your neighbors out.

As far a I can see that Sony has no SUB pre-out for a line to your sub.

What you would need to do is wire the sub directly to the B terminals using the High Level Inputs on the Polk sub (I assume it has those). Then you would run both A + B speakers (the A would be wired to the M70s, the B to the sub). Use the sub's crossover to adjust the Frequency cut off!

    And Enjoy!

FYI, if you decide on an amp in the future, you will need a receiver with pre/outs, I am unsure if your current Sony has them.

That's IT....I know using words is not as good as the diagram you've made above. Should probably have this as a 'sticky' for others with similar questions.

Usually, the Moderators do that. Don't worry...I'm just suggesting it here so that a staff person might consider it!
