I know you have to burn in products even though I don t understand why

I have a 5 channel amp in the box and only used for 4 hours . If I am to burn the amp in then do I have to hook a speaker up to each channels and leave it on for a long time to burn it in ?

Is the sound on amps really that diff after a burn in ?

    I've found that my NAD 765 sounded good right out of the box. Of course I was using for HT only and in my experience HT is all about sound effects. Over time the AVR did start to tone down a bit as the NAD house sound is one of warmth. As far a critical listening to music goes I haven't tested it for that but I'm sure it would need burn in to get the sublte nuances and harsh highs to become tame. YMMV and yes this is just my opinion as far as the music section goes. It can never hurt to burn-in electronic or break-in mechanical devices such as speaker drivers.

    How to burn in a multi channel amp

    Acetyline torch perhaps?:wink::tongue:

    I usually will set a cd to repeat while at work at a modest to low volume and just let it play. With a multi channel amp, I would do the same, but load a dvd instead and just turn off the tv.:cool:

    As far as speakers are concerned, I would hook up all channels.

    That you know what you are talking about is also a myth.

    I'll leave the audability of "burn in" debate to others but know the above quote to be factual.

    I dont know if "burn in" is real or not, but if it is real, I've got that covered. The last two amps I bought are each over a decade old.
    Do you hear that buzzing noise? :confused:

    Oh good grief, just hook it up & play it. The burn in if there is any will take care of itself while you are enjoying the tunes.

    It's interesting to note note that many high end electronic manufacturers recommend a burn-in period , Spectral, MIT, just to name a couple. As a matter of fact the design engineer of Spectral products once told me that the reason they don't put power switches on their products is so that the unit stays on all the time. Also he told me that after the unit has been powered off for some time to power it up and give it atleast 45 minutes for the components to stabilize.

    Burn in allows things like coils and capacitors to become more stable, really anything which has a mechanical aspect to it. Heat cycling is a very important component of burn in although many are unaware of that. It would be good if the amp were driving a set of speakers, otherwise some of the components in the signal path may not be exercised. It is best to turn on for awhile, at least until totally up to temperature (a few days) then turned off and allowed to go back to room temp and powered up again. Several cycles of this is much better than just leaving on for the same amount of time.

    Obviously at least one member of club polk was not initially burned in properly and you can see what that leads to...

    Oh who cares Max. So long as it plays.:wink: It leads to a well adjusted person who is busy enjoying her music and movies & letting the rest of it take care of itself without any thought, worry, or compulsive behavior from me!:tongue::biggrin:
