Something to power the Monitor 70s.

I have recently posted a thread about purchasing an HK3490 (120wpc) to power the 70s to which everyone replied the same thing, Its enough power. Unfortunately I have another problem, you see, I was further speculating the situation and wondered if I would ever want something more than 2.1. Reading good reviews about more HK products, I stumbled upon the HK1600 (7.1) which is only 35wpc. I have read that between the two receivers, the difference between 35w and 120w is only 5db... For some reason I find this a bit hard to believe. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks everyone

Are you referring to the HK AVR1600? That one is 50w x 7 and 35amps peak. Which is pretty decent for an AVR I'd guess. I'd worry more about current than watts.

Plus I've heard the M70s are pretty efficient.
ALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place :(

I have read that 35wpc is in the HK AVR1600 manual.

My bad, I have been mis informed. I just checked the PDF file of the owners manual and it clearly states 50wpc to 7 channels. (350 watts total)

Not a heck of alot, but then again,it doesn't cost alot either.
The 3490 has a more robust power supply but is only 2 channels. If you think you might want a 5 or 7 channel HT down the road, look for an avr with the bells and whistles you like, and pre outs to enable you to add an amp when you may want to upgrade speakers.
    HT SYSTEM-
    Sony 850c 4k
    Pioneer elite vhx 21
    Sony 4k BRP
    SVS SB-2000
    Polk Sig. 20's
    Polk FX500 surrounds

    Cables-
    Acoustic zen Satori speaker cables
    Acoustic zen Matrix 2 IC's
    Wireworld eclipse 7 ic's
    Audio metallurgy ga-o digital cable

    Kitchen

    Sonos zp90
    Grant Fidelity tube dac
    B&k 1420
    lsi 9's
