I appreciate all the help guys. I spent about two hours listening two channel today and the system sounds so sweet with equipment I have. The sound stage is astounding.
Doesn't matter what I have - it works and I love it. I'd like to replace these speakers with the same.
michaeljhsda2, If I understand what you're talking about "blade/ blade interconnects", yes they are all blade type connections between the two speakers. -

They are the original SRS's.SDA SRS 2.3TL's
Silk Audio MS-90-BT integrated tube amp
Yaqin MS-20L integrated tube amp

You just got them together not long ago!!! you will regret it.. LOL!!

You should audition other speakers as well, like some Carvers or Magnepan, Martin Logan, Thiel, Apogee etc...

Yeah I figured that. So, I think any of the 1.2s would work for me. -

why? these work in my room, I love the sound and the price - if I can find a pair - is reasonable. -
michaeljhsda2, care to meet me half way?
-
That's a long half way
Suggest to your neighbor that he should audition other speakers like some Carvers or Magnepan, Martin Logan, Thiel, Apogee etc and then you can buy his Polks. Like a good neighbor, you'll help him fund his new speakers and you'll get the speakers you love.SDA SRS 2.3TL's

This^^^^^^^something I still want to do but I have another hungry hobby at the moment... -

Because SDA's are not the be all end all. IMO I think my Carver AL III plus sound better than my modded 2.3tl's and cost a whole lot less, well for now, lol:biggrin: -

I hear you Larry but the drums have sucked me dry for the time being, lol -

(singing) Like a good neighbor state farm is there....... With a brand new pair of srs's. -
My neighbor is now running a huge ribbon array that he built - seriously, the top is like 12 feet tall. It's based on the Quad design.
Hes got a very big listening room with 20 foot ceilings. These mammoths pressurize the room even at moderate listening levels.
My own speakers are Sonus Faber Grand Pianos. I spent about 3 months listening to dozens of speaker systems to find them.
The 1.2's just fill my room better than the Sonus and have a noticeably stronger presence.
I wasn't looking for speakers when these came here and I don't want to get into that at all! I'll end up spending more than I have - it always works that way. -
I just got an email back from my neighbor: He says he's fine with me keeping them for a while longer.
He let me know that he flew to Nashville and rented a truck to bring them home! And feels fortunate to have found such a nice pair. Maybe the Drive to Dallas isn't too much to ask?
He also softened up a bit and indicated that he might consider talking about selling...
maybe - sometime - down the road - in the future - post apocalypse...
I think in the end it's going to come down to how satisfied he is with his home-built electrostats. -

flynbulldog,
Looks like I have some competition in finding a pair of these bad boys I'm just S of Monument in the B. Forest area. Wish you the best of luck in finding a pair you like! -

Great, lets just don't start bidding against each other -
No worries, I'm in no hurry! I'm currently in the process of upgrading the x-overs in my SDA2's that I bought 25ys ago.
-
flynbulldog - I'll throw in my 2 cents. Don't rule out the smaller versions of SDA's - especially the 1C's. They look "small", but they definitely pack a punch and can fill a decent sized room fairly easily. The smaller sets won't give you a hernia when you try to move them either... haha
Having said that, my SDA-SRS's aren't for sale. -

I have to agree here. We have a number of different size SDA's in my family. The 1.2TL's down to the SDA 2's. While the Big Boys are really something special, you may actually like one of the "smaller" models even more, depending on your room.
Please don't overlook the 2.3 models or the 1C's if they show up near you for a good price. Heck, there's nothing wrong with having a couple pairs of SDA's to fit your mood right?
Good luck with the search! -
Hi Guys, I bought a pair of SDAII's off craigslist today.
I wasn't expecting much so they surprised me.
I'm still looking for a pair of 1.2's within a reasonable driving distance (1 day out and back)
Now that I've heard how good these smaller speakers are I'm willing to look at 2.3's too. -
Really good to hear! Those should definitely hold you over for a until you find a pair of the big boys.
-
I set them up in front and spent about two hours listening to them in two channel.
I still have the 1.2's in my theater room so I put the SDA2s in the rear as surrounds and threw on a few DTS disks - - some Stealy Dan, Alan Parsons, Dire Straights, and mixed it up with some Porcupine Tree and Beck...
The sound is OMFG  The new SDA2s integrate so seamlessly with the 1.2s it sounds like they are an extension of the front speakers.
It's pretty amazing - I hope I can finally land a pair of 1.2s of my own. -

Yep, you've got the SDA bug. I caught it last year, and boy did I catch it. 5 sets of SDA's later, I still find myself trolling Craiglist and this forum for another set....
BTW, you keep referring to the ones you are borrowing from your neighbor as "1.2's". As others have pointed out, they are actually the original SDA-SRS model, not the 1.2 or 1.2tls. It's important to know that because there are differences in the models and you might actually perfer the original model over one of the 1.2's. The concensus seems to be the original SDA-SRS's have a bit more bass slam, where the 1.2 and 1.2tl's have possibly a more refined sound. (There was a good thread on this subject a while ago.) Pretty much everyone says any of the 3 models are outstanding though. But, if bass is more important to you, you might do better looking for a set like you are currently demoing (the SDA-SRS's), which can also be found for much cheaper than the 1.2 models...
Have fun, and enjoy the music! I know I am! -

Can someone tell me what the physical differences are between the SRS, 1.2, and 1.2 tl? -
BTW the owner of the SRS's came by the other day and we spent about an hour listening.
He was surprised at how good the whole thing sounded in my room on my equipment.
He said he didn't expect it to work so well.
I don't think it helped my chances of him selling them to me... -
there's a story but I'll cut to the chase.
I'm now the owner of the SDA SRS's that reside in my house. The owner decided to sell them to me.
Thanks guys this has been a fun thread with lots of help and I got to meet some nice people.
I'm going to spend some time in the listening room tonight. -
