I prefer my corn fed beef in the form of a thick Ribeye cooked over wood.

I can see not liking the boiled cabbage... that's a terrible thing to do to almost any vegetable besides a potato, but corned beef is gooood! Maybe not by itself, but I got a recipe for corned beef and barley soup that is Soup **** good. And there is no better breakfast food in the world than corned beef hash. Seriously. Beef, bacon, potatoes, and egg all in the same tasty heap. As with so many things in life, it really is all about the synergy.

Just be glad that the Irish don't serve up kimchi with corned beef! I think a cat **** is added to it for a starter culture !

Was at the local Brewpub last night... they were doing corned beef and cabbage with potatoes. I don't mind the smell, but I stay away from the cabbage. I had them make me a corned beef sammich instead. It was excellent :).

Speaking of kimchi... a former housemate used to LOVE kimchi... he made a batch of it one time... I appended the house rules to include NO KIMCHI MANUFACTURING! The smell didn't leave the house for days.

Seriously? Your wife is Irish and you're bitching about cabbage one day a year? One of my grandmothers was German and the other was Polish. I had cabbage every Sunday for the first 18 years of my life. Try cabbage with stewed tomatos and stale bread... the Polish call it kapusta, but in fact it is the culinary equivalent of pure evil. Man up and consider it the luck of the Irish that you get to wash it down with green beer.:smile:

I see you're from Seattle....I spent 41 of my aged years in Seattle (graduated from Renton High)...I'll bet with a post like that, you'll eat lutefisk the one day a year Ballard has the Lutefisk festival.

LOL... we traded places. I came here from Tucson (just went to college there). After 15 years of Seattle, I could definitely stand some Tucson again.

I have tasted of the lutefisk, and I don't know what color beer you'd have to drink to make that stuff taste good! Seriously, how desperate do you have to be to preserve food with lye?

a lot of people overcook the cabbage.. so that's why they dislike it.. cabbage should remain bright green and not grayish when cooked.. should be tender crisp... with some seasonings of your choice..

people overcook broccoli too.. but that's another story....

we had sauerkraut too.. that i could take it or leave it... but it wasn't to strong.. perfect for a sammich.. with spicy brown musturd
