Are you actually getting a 4G signal? I have a 4G phone with Sprint and I seldom am in an area with a strong 4G signal.

13.54 down 26.82 up. I am using the speedtest app so I think the up is erroneous, but I am not a doctor. That is to a server in Chicago.

    Wow, those are great speeds!

Is there a cap or is it unlimited?

dayum...I would have tethered all day long and replace my DSL, at that speed.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Right now, with the TB, it is 29.99/month unlimited. However, rumors are, that they are going to tiered data this summer. TB buyers will be grandfathered in at the 29.99/unlim.

damn...wish i had those speeds. I hate how android 2.3 has been out for months...yet all these phones that are coming out still have 2.2. I wonder what the deal is with that?

Either way, seems like there's a lot of great phones out there with great features, yet, not one phone with all of them in one package.

With as small as these phones are getting these days, I dont understand why somsone just doesnt make a phone where the whole back is a big battery. I'd gladly take a phone that was a 1/4" deeper that held a charge for 4 days.

I was looking at this phone yesterday. It looks pretty cool. I am up in the air right now. The company I work for supplies me with a Blackberry and I do have a personal cell but it just sits in the charger on my desk at home since the company I work for pays the bill on the BB. Though it would be nice to have this cool phone but I cannot justify buying it and paying the extra data fee and then carry two phones.

The short answer is, you're spoiled....

You get all that stuff first because you're on a Google phone with no custom framework or GUI work done, so you're straight Android. Essentially, you're a beta tester for the rest of us non-Nexus phone guys.

We wait longer because either the manufacturer or the community has to take Google's source code (which runs natively on your phone) and modify it work work on that hardware and kernel. Thus the wait.

That's the biggest issue with the Android platform, the fact that you have so many devices means you get alot of choice as a buyer, but that comes at the price of consistency and timeliness of software releases.

I am debating on buying this or holding off for the droid x2 (or maybe even bionic).

I live in southern missouri and we have no 4g here.

Currently I have my OG 18 month old droid.

No I started with black berry then the droid 1, droid incredible, droid x, droid 2 and now the TB. :)

Like someone mentioned, as cool as android is... the problem with so much choice is the timeliness of OS updates. By the time the manufacturers push updates to customers, Google has another version or 2 out. However, to me, the phenomenal choice and customization is worth the price of admission.

I don't wait for manufacturers to release updates. You usually get faster updates with more options from the user community, xda developers is a good resource if you're not already familiar with it.

Guess so. I just with the Nexus S was a better phone. Having the latest OS is probably the only advantage to having that phone compared to everything else thats out there.

I just didnt think it'd take that long to upgrade the GUI from one version of android to the next.

I still love my phone, I cant wait to get a new one...but at the same time, it'll probably be a while. At least til next year so I can get my money's worth out of buying the N1.

NFC is awesome though. Once its get more widespread, its going to be pretty cool. Looks like this could be used for anything from a credit card to hotel room keys. I'd imagine, someday they're going to equip these phones with a RFID technology that'll be able to unlock your house door, unlock your car and allow it to start with the push of a button...etc.

Its exciting where technology is headed.

I'm still waiting for a phone that has a giant battery though...

This phone should be a good bit quicker than the Evo. The Evo is a great device, and there are tons of custom ROMs and such, but it's a year old now, newer technology out...

I have the sprint version of this phone (the HTC EVO). I have had it for only a few months and I love it. (my first android phone - I have had Palm and windows mobile (6.5) phones in the past.)

Juice defender does work really well. (I just use the free version in advanced mode and it works great. only reason I have it in advanced is I want the radios to stay on when I run Pandora - other than that, basic would be fine)

it is not hard to get a full day of battery life out of these phones. If you use them constant though - 4-5 hours is all you can expect.

Does anyone know if the thunderbolt and the EVO use (or can use) the same battery? I did pick up some extra batteries off ebay for very cheap and it was a good investment...

I have to say the battery life sucks on this phone, 1400mah (?) is not enough. I think thats what my eris was running and it was on the low side for that phone.

I live in an area without 4G yet. Does anyone knows if I got this phone if I would just get the 4G plan for $30/mo and then it would include 3G? Then when the price goes up or there are tiered plans would I be able to keep unlimited data at $30/mo and then unlimited 4G when it comes to my area?

Yes I believe so. When I asked them on Thursday they said the 4G would come automatically. No changes to data plans.
