I just bought 3 pairs of polks a few days ago:

SDA 2s

Monitor 5j+s

monitor 4s

here is the issue...the 4s have a sda pug! refer to the pics. one speaker also has a selector switch. there is also no serial#. i checked all the vintage polk sites i could find, and saw NO monitor 4s like this.

if i am making a big stink about nothing, let me know, otherwise please shed some light on this for me.

thanks

    Looks very interesting for sure.

Maybe an experiment that made it out of research. A 1-0ff.

How many woofers and tweeters does it have?
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

That is not stock. I doubt Polk did anything like that. You can't do SDA with a single driver setup. Can you get it to play correctly? CAn you pull the XO out for a few pics?
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.

I agree ben...but if you open the pics, you can clearly see that the plastic back plate clearly is from Polk, which has added to my confusion. I am not clear as to what you want in the pics tho.

...and yes, with a little experimenting with the "selector" I got them working in 2 channel.

This is a joke!!! The two black binding posts are the originals with the red one swapped out with a black one. The other two with the switch and SDA outlet was added for shock value.. Nothing more nothing less.

This is worthless without pics of the inside...

    Nice try!!!

I thought these were intended to be surrounds for the SDA line, and a few were released to vendors for test purposes, but they did not really get far.

It would be nice to see a pic or two of the speakers without the grills on and of the crossover. Interesting that they have the stock blade/blade connectors for the SDA cable.

I am willing to take them apart and send pics...WILL POST THEM TOMORROW. not home right now. On iPad.

Now, from your nice try comment toolforlife, I could assume that you think I need my 15 minutes by fabricating this.

    No.

I am just a Polk lover that reached out to those with more knowledge than me for an explanation. I bought these to listen to, but if I have to take them apart...I will.

Thanks noos, polker, and dskip for your imput. Tool, I'm just looking for a valid answer.

Looks like a possible prototype of the short lived SDS Surround Speakers(I think that's what they were called).

IIRC, they created an SDA signal by sending both in phase and out of phase signals to the drivers...creating a very mild SDA effect that was intended to be an expansion of the front SDA speakers. They weren't really intended as surround speakers in the home theater sense, the way I understood it. If these are authentic, that's a rare item you've got there. Very cool.

I'm just ribbing you. I still want to see the inside, would be intrested if this was just a mod. It looks like you could hook up two receivers and switch which one you want to listen too. The SDA outlet makes no sense..

Sal's speakers look more liget, and to be very honest I really thought you were pulling our legs with this one.

That's wild! So both the left and right channel go into the speaker pictured above and the blade/blade jones socket is used to connect that speaker to the other speaker??? (It sounds like that's how the SDS 400 worked but with the 1/4" jack instead of the jones socket.) Do both have the SDA jones socket?

Wild... so I guess that's how they're intended to be connected instead of through their own speaker wire binding posts to get the SDA/surround effect. It would be interesting to get the 2's (or any other SDA's you might have lying around) and those all hooked up to the same source.

Thanks!!!! What a mess,it's hard to tell if that it's legit or not. I really thought this was going to be a joke. Now the question is did polk have their hands in this/is this a prototype of some sort??

Pics of the back of the driver??

Thanks for posting these, and sorry for the rant above..

Well let's see...I'm moving soon, so I put them in storage, and I went there and dismantled it on the spot. The driver is sill in storage.

Don't worry bout the rant, there are hundreds of people putting fake crap online everyday, so I understand the skepticism, and I should have understood your point of view. I was just looking at who I was.

I really think it's a prototype. This is Polk audio build quality. I owned a pair of 5jr+s for years, and there is nothing to make me think that someone other than Polk built this.

Wow, do they rattle when you shake 'em? Based on the description of the SDS 400 it definitely sounds like these are a prototype of that model. Too bad there isn't a schematic for them.

Skrol, I'll look for a date, but I haven't seen one so far. No rattle of any kind On3s...like I said the build quality is what you would expect from Polk.
