We now have a private dining room

Spent last weekend enclosing our dining room. Walls and 4x4 beams went up and started trim work. This weekend I'll be installing baseboards, window trim, trimming out the entry and some painting. We love it. Gives total separation to the rooms and gives us a nice private dining area that we can paint and decorate completely different than the living room.

I'd put the HT in the diningroom and the table in the HT room. :)

Looks good Ron ,I'd like to see before pic's as well. Our dining room is open to our family room and I thought about closing it up. I like it open then I like it closed.

Here's a shot of what it looked when it was all opened up, just after we finished laying the wood floor.

One thing I have never liked are "great rooms", big open rooms with everything, everywhere for all to see. I like the smaller, closed up areas and so does the wife. Our living / dining room is quite small, about 12' x 30' excluding the tiled area you see off to the right.

That is looks really nice. We are considering doing the same thing at our house. We have a big family room and are not too crazy about it.

    Here's a couple updated pics...

The top half of the dining room walls will be the burgundy color you see (it's still a bit wet in the pic) and the bottom half will be black. I've installed some exterior lighting as well which is all wired into the switch at the front door.

I feel like I'm at Michie Tavern. Not an exact copy but the atmosphere feels the same.

    Great work, Ron.

    My usual .02......

I'm a little sad you covered up that hardwood you just laid, but how did you seal the baseboard with the handcarved planks? Caulking?

Also, I'm seeing light peeking through the panels and the beams....so this is just a beam holding plywood or something up? What are you going to do to seal around the edges? If it's just a plank of something between the two rooms, how will that handle sound isolation between the areas? If keeping single pane type separator, why not notch the planks so you could bury the edges and keep the light gaps at bay?

Brett, all that light you see peeking though will eventually be covered up by trim work, I'm just not that far along with the project yet. All those walls are 5/8" MDF sheets placed in between the beams. I'm not worried about sound isolation between the areas, it's not important. I just wanted to create a small enclosed dining area that's mostly separated from the rest of the house. The walls are resting on rubber bumpers so they don't actually come in contact with the floor and the baseboards lay directly on the floor hiding the gabs along the base of the walls.

Oh, and the flooring is still very visible. Adding the walls didn't cover much of it up.

Stopped by once as part of a tour group on the way to Monticello. That's a lovely area you live in.
